2.2E engine # and config. questions

I bought a 71E with the engine out and on a pallet, po said it was the orig. engine and maybe so, but I'am confused about a couple of issues. Engine # is 6210551 which is correct by all accounts but the case has no oil squirters and the volicity stacks are cast instead of plastic. The EFI pump is correct by#- 2.2E but
everythig I read says all 71's had squirters and 69 was the last year for cast stacks. Any ideas??

Yes, case squirters in 1971. 1972 was the first year for plastic stacks, my 71 has cast stacks and the pisser in the air cleaner for cold start.

What's the casting number on your case?

I have/had both a 70, 71 and 72 cases. the 70 was a 1R/2R case. The 71 was a 3R/3R case, one of the 72s was a 3R/4R case and another was a 4R/5R case.

hope this helps

The cast stacks are correct for a '71. The 2.4 motors were the first to use plastic. When in '71 was the car built? If early, it is possible that the piston squirter modification had not yet been made. My '70 2.2, or example, was built early on (late '69), and has only one layshaft bearing even though all 2.2s are supposed to have two.
