Fiberglass C2 Turbo Front Bumper Intall - tips?

I'm going down to the shop to pick up my new C2 Turbo (965) front bumper tomorrow morning - it's like christmas in December! -
and I'll probably start the surgery this weekend.

I also bought a matching splitter and fiberglass hood. Unfortunately, this (and the oil cooler) left me no funds left over for a cool letterman jacket. Oh well - I don't have the requisite gap in my front teeth, or a top-10 list of anything.

This project will involve re-locating the front oil cooler as well. Should be a grand old time!

I'm looking for helpful hints from those who have done this before.

Thanks!

Here's what the bumper I ordered:

and splitter

When I paint, I just might also install the aero mirrors I bought last December with my PCA poop-on.

My bumper is the Strosec 965 style unit. I simply bolted it to the front tub and fenders while using stock 930 braces at the corners. All the bumper shock equipment was removed. Saved a bunch of weight.

Are you going to go the 964-look at the back too? You've already got the decklid...

Looking forward to the progress pics.

what's behind the fiberglass? did you get some supports? or does this "skin" over a stock metal bumper?

When I smash my fiberglass bumper and need to replace it, I'm going to fab some brackets and secure it with 1/4 fasteners. It will probably have 6 fasteners visible.

I've already had my bumper on and off 3-4 times, and it is a hassle. It would be nice to pop that thing on and off in a couple minutes. I could even pop it on and off just for loading on the trailer.

I view fiberglass bumpers as consumable items. They get smashed, then you get another. Nice to be able to pop them on and off easily. Plus you can have different bumpers for street and track.

For a stock car, no way. But for a car that is track modified, I think it will look fine. In fact I think it will look cool.

For the IROC bumper, I fabbed telescoping mounts which mimic the stock setup. I then have 2 6mm bolts on the very ends of the bumpers. It comes off in about 5 minutes. I was going to fab a new set of of aluminum, but I never got that far.

However, the 965 bumper I just got doesn't have the studs inside, so I canit mount it in that fashion.

I'll come up with something.

ok my fiberglass bumper has a steel after market bumper bolted to where the old shocks were bolted, when you open the hood it uses a c2 plate that goes through the seal and bolts to the 4 bolts you take out, it then bolts to the fenders like stock, I have two braces going down to the bumper(like stock) i also want to add that my spliter is heavier because it is also a louvered under tray that goes from just in front of the tires all the way across to the other tire it is supposed to divert air from under the car, I actually feel it at about 70, Kevin
