Question It's Science! - Silver Colored Cars Safest, Scientists Say

Hey, I guess I can save myself the money I was going to spend on that roll bar and 5-point harnesses! My car is silver, therefore I'll live forever. (typed with tongue in cheek and knocking every piece of wood I can find. )

LONDON (Reuters) - Silver colored cars are less likely to be involved in a crash causing serious injuries, New Zealand scientists said Friday. About 3,000 people die in road traffic accidents around the world each day but researchers at the University of Auckland said the risk of being injured in a silver car was less than in cars of other colors. more...

KILLER CONCRETE IS IN MICHIGAN

Bring your P-Car to Michigan, speed all you want(not pulled over unless 82+ in most cases on highway) and leave your suspension parts behind.
I drive over 40,000 miles a year in michigan in my ML 320 99 with 130,000 miles on it. P-Car would be history by now.... OUR roads are the worst in the union! Now that I am off the soap box, we do have the latest metal from the big three or? running around town before most anyone sees it, one of the few gear head pluses. John

I think its well documented that lighter colored cars are safer @ night than darker cars. They're simply more visible.

Tom, I guess I'll have to take the DA sander to our Aubergine 73E. Don't want the missus to drive or ride in an unsafe vehicle.

The National Insurance Institute has done plenty of studies on accident rates (not at fault) and color. It's not a coinkeydinkey firetrucks are painted yellow-green - the highest visual rating - lowest in accidents. In general, the lighter the color, the more visible. Black and dark cars - even reds at night, fare the worst. Hence no red fire trucks.

Well, James Dean won't be thinking anything at all... he never had a chance with his "silver" car against the glare of the setting sun in his back, coming right over a slight ridge...
I guess the silver car safety factor must be similar to the Swedish regulation that all cars must drive with their headlamps on, day and night! (Volvo's and Saab's over here you can't even drive them without their headlights on).
