Is there a 'How to' on door disassembly?
Is there a guide, previous post, or a tech articel somewhere that describes how to remove the window frames and door handles from a 911. Im starting to prep my car and I dont want to ruin the door hardware.
TIA |

Don't know if there is anything out there, but it's pretty easy.
Just a matter of unbolting the frame and the handle from the inside. Once the nuts/bolts are all removed, the frame and handles just pull right out. |

Having just done this, I can tell you it's not that hard. I didn't have a how-to and figured it out fairly quickly.
Step 1 Remove door panels. Step 2 Remove black grommets in rear of door and front of door exposing window frame bolts. Step 3 Spray bolts with Liquid Wrench, Wait a couple of hours Step 4 Remove Bolts I believe they are 6mm allen bolts, 2 on front side of door, 3 on back, and 1 on the inside of the door by the vent window. Step 5 There is also a bolt securing the window frame on the inside of the door you should be able to dee it through the speaker hole, Remove bolt Step 6 Gently coax window frame out of door by pulling straight up on the frame, I rolled down the window during this procedure. The window frame should come out with a little bit of effort and you should be good to go. The door locking mechanism will come out after the window frame is out, it has three screws on the back side of the door(by the striker) that need to come out, and the release handle and the push lock have bolts that are readily apparent on the door. I took this stuff out as one piece. Sam

Shuie, on the tech board an article covers this subject. Here it is:
Guest Technical Article: 911 Door Panel Removal Bob Tindel bob@pelicanparts.com The procedure described below is for a 911SC, but other models are similar. There may be some minor differences in other year models, but this is how I removed the door panels on my 1983 911SC: 1. Remove door lock button and window sill. The sill is held by two screws, one on each end. The rear screw is under a small plastic plug. 2. Remove the rotary unlocking knob. Pry the cover off the center of the knob and remove the Phillips screw. 3. Disconnect the main door latch. This little linkage is under the door pull handle, and snaps into a small plastic coupling. 4. Gently pry the window switch from the door panel (stiff putty knife works well--be careful not to bend the little metal bezel in the panel that the switch snaps into). Disconnect the wires, after noting which wire connects to which terminal. 5. Remove radio speaker grills. 6. Remove door pockets. There are three machine screws along the bottom edge of each pocket, one sheet-metal screw on each end, and one sheet-metal screw in the center under the pocket lid. Also remove the small plastic door-pocket bracket near the front of the door. 7. Remove the door pull handle. These are held by four allen-head screws, two at the top and two inside holes near the bottom of the handle. 8. Make sure any remaining screws/bolts holding the panel are removed. Then carefully pry the plastic retaining clips loose. Again, a stiff putty knife or scraper works well. 9. This is a good opportunity to inspect the inside of the door to make sure the drain holes are clear, and that there is no rust. Also a good time to lubricate all of the mechanical linkages in the door. Good luck, David

Shuie: I'm not sure about this (I have mid years panels) but I think before the SCs, the door hardware operated using rods only, not cables.
-the back pocket removal should be self explanatory -the top armrest piece is removed with 2 screws on either end and unscrewing the lock-pull. This reveals the top 2 allen screws of the door pull handle. -the door-opener paddle has a bar underneath it. push it up out of the clip and the paddle will swing free revealing the bottom 2 allens of the door pull handle. -the panel may have the speaker and/or power window control switches left. remove the speaker but leave the switches. after the panel is loosened you want to write down the placement of the wires for reassembly. -the panel is held in place with plastic clips and pops out. Put tape on the end of a blunt screwdriver and carefully lever the panel off one clip at a time. The plastic male clip slides into plastic grommet in the door so replace these if necessary. I posted earlier today about removing the window frame in a wind noise post. Good luck. Use lots of lightly applied blue tape to prevent paint scratches and clean and lube before reassembly.
