'73 Dash Pad Options?
I'm looking for advice on dash pad options on a 73 911. Don't need speaker hole. Any thoughts?

Later dash pads are much cheaper. And less susceptible to cracking. I put a late pad (C2) on my '72, cutting an opening for a center vent (since early 911s have poor ventilation flow).
Pretty much any late dash pad fits until the 996. You'll just have to expect a different attachment setup.

That sounds like a good option, but I'm not too sure I want a vent hole. Any thought on the Coverlay type plastic caps?

Coverlays are expensive for what you get, IMHO, and if you have the car out in the sun a lot, the places where it's glued to your old dash will shrink & expand at different rates, so in my experience, the Coverlay needs to re replaced in 3 years. Cheaper dash covers from other companies are worse. I'd say it's a toss-up, dollar-wise if you can live with the vent.

Any ideas where I might look for a late model dash pad at a decent price?
Matt

I got mine on eBay.
But they come up on Pelican from time to time as well.

Check out "justdashes.com". You can send your old dash in to have it redone. It is warranteed as long as you own the car. Not cheap (about $450 to $550 ?), but good quality - I understand. I'll be sending mine in to them pretty soon to be rebuilt.

Sorry, I didn't see the reply. My dash has a crack in the middle and now it is almost broken in half at one end from sitting at the upholstery shop for years.

If you have the bucks, a new pad is the way to go, but a cover looks pretty darn good considering the cost. This one is about 3 years old and still looks great. I have never even glued it down, it just sits on the existing dash pad. I plan to wait till I have a few extra bucks and am replacing the windshield to replace the dash pad. This is great til then.
