CIS- what is this line for?

I noticed this hose has cracked big-time. It connects to the left side of the airbox & disappears into the front of the engine compartment. I can't see what its for? Does anyone know?
thanks!

carbon cannister fumes get drawn into the intake to burn.

Thanks John. The line has aged & snapped in 2. For now I've just blocked off each end. Will this have any ill effects?

Mine is blocked off and I haven't had any problems. It was one by the PO.

Leaving the line open would not affect the engine. It would, however, allow unfiltered air into the intake plenum to be drawn thru the air metering sensor.

So just plug it.
