Project Turbo 69` part 3 Im getting there !

Its been about a month since my last post on this project. Here`s what`s new with the car since then(not much really).
I installed a set of later style outside door handles, all the glass and mouldings , a temperary but great sounding dual in dual out GHL muffler(came of my R/S clone because I just turbocharged it).
Got new suspension on the way which includes a full 935 billet aluminum penske/kmr coilover set with nitrogen resivoirs and in car damping knobs, full mono ball throughout the entire setup. 935 billet front control arms and billet rear sring plates that are made for coilovers. The brakes are big reds and according to fred these are not standard 993 turbo units but better (bigger) and have ti floating hats and special pads(wont use the pads on the street) Also I just bought a brand new set of replica full leather vintage ST seats shipped here from italy . I dont have anything installed yet because the parts havent arrived yet. I should be getting them once the guys from Kelly Moss(fred howard and jeff stone) finish the suspension .
Here`s a few current pictures of the 69` as well as a few shots of the stuff I just bought. Im so exicted about this car I dont even respect my R/S clone much anymore which btw is very fast now with the turbo aside from the slipping 215mm clutch but thats another story.

Well it turns out the other pictures are too big and I cant figure out how to downsize them to load here. Well I will take smaller pics once they arrive unless someone will do it for me.

ZAMIRZ 12-21-2003 06:53 PM

OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY, more pictures as soon as you can Kurt, it looks great with those HREs!

lendaddy 12-21-2003 07:00 PM

Wait a minute here, you did what now? Is that a Turo 2.2L? Or an actual 3.3L 930 engine in there? Either way wow and tell me more.

pjv911 12-21-2003 07:06 PM

Its still a 2.2S motor(webers) with a type911 tranny. Sitting 40 feet away from the car is a 2k mile C2 turbo 965 engine with a Kokeln intercooler and modified injection . Im still waiting to hear from floyd (racerbvd`s friend) about his converted(for early car) g50 tranny setup so I can install this beast.

lendaddy 12-21-2003 07:10 PM

You are a sick man. That is just wrong. I cannot wait for details.

pjv911 12-21-2003 07:15 PM

Heres a few more of the car taken on saturday. It was in a repair bay so the backround is kind of tight . Also if anyone has missed part 1 and 2 heres the links .

BTW guys know one asked me how the steel rear bumpers are mated correctly to the R/S flares . They are steel carrera pieces welded to the early bumpers . The center is just a standard porsche nos steel unit. I had purchased an aluminum center but felt it would be way to fragile to lean against while knowing I will be spending many hours back there with threatening knees that could easily bend it during the drivetrain install plus working out all the expected bugs.

Kurt,
Yes, I was going to ask.

Are these RS bumper ends available? If so, what's the source?

BTW, your car looks great.

Thanks,
Sherwood

This is the 69` E

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1072311203.jpg

This is the t/4 turbocharged R/S replica

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1072311331.jpg

This is a 69T I bought for no reason other than cheap. Its a 99% original(paint too) ugly sand beige rustfree slug. I dont know what im going to do with it. I got it 2 years ago and did nothing to it other than leave it sitting in my friends driveway outside in the weather.

pjv911 01-18-2004 08:32 AM

Just got my new full leather ST seats(replica`s) on thursday. This coming week I will be installing the carpet and seats. They are so beautiful and the leather is very soft. The box with the 2 seats only weighed about 25 lbs . The tracks came in a separate box . I will post some pictures soon. The brakes and suspension deal should be coming together soon as well. I figure about 3 months before its all done. Cant wait.

Kurt, it is looking so smoooth! I love that color. Can't wait to see the int. :)

mjshira 01-19-2004 06:31 AM

Kurt, who do you recommend for paint work in the NYC area? Thanks!

James

pjv911 01-19-2004 03:50 PM

My painter(i did all the bodywork) is in huntington and the business name is Triple G auto body. They are at exit 51 north off of the LIE . There # is 631-427-6082 ask for vinny and tell um I reccomended them. Honestly I wouldnt have let anyone else touch it . The car doesnt even need to be polished ! Its just unbelievable what those guys(vinny jr) can do with paint . It doesnt hurt that they have a brand new $60k Surebake spray booth either. The car was heated for 3 hrs at 125 deg to harden the finish. I couldnt be happier.

pjv911 02-01-2004 08:59 PM

My complete shortened g50 kit is on its way(thanks to a tip from a fellow pelicanite). Should arrive by thursday. Also the penske/kelly moss made coilovers and all other suspension is almost ready to be shipped. Wait till you guys see this hardware ! Even a stainless steel front crossmember. I have lots of new pictures but they are still in my camera. Will post em soon . Ive become friends with one of the guys involved over at kelly moss and its definetly been a great experiance. My coilovers are waiting for dyno testing on there shock dyno ! How cool is that ? Still looking for a lsd unit for the tranny.

Kurt Williams

pjv911 02-03-2004 05:00 PM

G50 kit is in the house !!

Received the tranny today. Its a shortened unit done by patrick motorsports. It was done in 1994 and never used. The crate shown in the picture has been its home for the past 10 years. I also received all the parts needed to install in an early car except the carrera axles which I may allready have(gotta go look). As of now im just a throw out bearing away from a complete drivetrain. I will still be waiting to install the drivetrain because the upper rear crossmember has to be cut out and updated because of the coilovers that are going in. The shock tunnel holes are to small on the 72` and earlier cars. That should be lots of fun ! At least the transmission hurdle has been jumped.

Looks like an awesome project. Can't wait to see it done.

Regarding your intercooler/tail problems. Ever consider doing a custom system to support a liquid to air intercooler? This way you could fit the intercooler within the fender on one side and the water tank in the other fender. Was my plan on my 993 till I needed bodywork and ended up going GT2 crazy. I think this would be the best way to get that stealth look since even if you put the air/air into a fender you would need some sort of ducting in the bodywork which defeats the entire idea.

Az911 02-03-2004 07:01 PM

How long till you get the suspension? I ready to check out all of the trick parts you picked up.

pjv911 02-03-2004 07:12 PM

From what I was last told Jeff at kelly moss was going over the coilover setup on the shock dyno before it is shipped. My guess is at least two weeks. I will definetely be posting pictures of these items. They are (combined) by far the most expensive investment into this project . According to Fred Howard this is as good as technology gets to date as far as suspension and components goes.

MotoSook 02-03-2004 07:17 PM

Great progress Kurt. Can you tel us more about the suspension?

pjv911 02-03-2004 07:42 PM

Heres the info as best as I can tell it.

Special pin type billet fastening monoballs on all corners (yes the rears too).
The coilovers are made to order by penske exclusively for kelly moss using their blueprints. All 4 coilovers are made from billet aluminum and titanium. They each have 5 way controllable remote resevoirs. They attach (top and bottom)with pins on heim type ball sockets which somehow get integrated with the momoballs. Springs are 400lbs(frt) and 600lbs(rear) I think?
The front control arms are racer group made and as far as I remember they are billet aluminum and have a built in adjustable caster feature.
Rear conrtrol arms are stock 1986 carrera units which will use the racer group spring plates (also adjustable caster).
The sway bars are also some type of high end units but honestely I dont even know who makes them or what size they are. I do know they are adjustable at the ends. I figure if thats what kelly moss suggests it must be good.
The front crossmember(where the rack and control arms will mount too) is a chromemoly unit that is somewhat simelar in weight to the stock aluminum type. Aside from being pretty it is desinged to be more rigid and unbreakable. I dont think that part was a nesessity but what the hell its coming with this package that im buying so who am I to say no.
Steering rack is a 2.5 to 1 new unit. Stock for my car is 3 to 1 (lock to lock)
There is also alot of special hardware and likely some other components I forgot to mention . The kelly moss website mentions very little about this setup but there is a little info.

Also just purchased a B&B fender mount oil cooler with a thermostat controlled fan . Its a kit from Windward. I will soon have to contact Chuck (elephant) for the lines that run the length of the car as well as a thermostat.

pjv911 02-04-2004 05:58 PM

Started work today on the clutch/flywheel

Mounted up the lightweight flywheel and disk for trial fitting. Also swaped out the stock CIS sytem which used a frequency valve and ecm in favor of a rebuilt euro system which is non computorized and no longer requires the oxygen sensor. I removed the air pump and power steering pump asa well as both brackets . I took plenty of pictures but screwed up and had the quality setting way to high for posting here. There was a few in low quality but not exactly choice shots.

Yes I know the engine is quite dusty. The camera flash certainly highlighted that fact. Its been wrapped in plastic for the last 3 months too.

Kurt,

Do you have any side shots of the nogaro.

I have the same HRE wheels. My car is currently in the body shop for resto. I would like to get an idea of what they look like on the car.

Thanks

pjv911 06-07-2004 06:23 PM

Not the best sideshots but this is what I have as of now.
