Too much shake

Help! I have a shimmie in the front end at 70-73 mph. I have tried two sets of Fuchs, new tires, new wheel bearings and alignment. The car is rock steady until 70 mph. The shimmie disappears at 78-80 mph. Any help with this!

speedman, post more info about your car, it will help you to get more accurate advice. I have a similar problem with my 70T but my tires are crap, I'm hoping that solves the problem. I'll be watching this thread, as I may be in your shoes if tires don't solve the problem. Have you gone over everything in your suspension very closely, nothing loose or worn out?

The car shimmies in the steering wheel. The wheel is rock steady until 72 mph. Everything seems to be tight and solid.

Do you have steel wheel locks with alloy lug nuts?

Sounds like you have a wheel or two out of balance.

Assuming that everything is tight and no other issues, it only leaves the rotors being out of balance as they are the only other things spinning with your wheels. I have only seen a rotor bad enough one time to cause this but it can happen. Check everything else first. If you want to check the rotor, remove the seal and bearings and clean all the grease out of it until you can eat off it. Lightly oil the bearings and reassemble without the seal and do not overtighten the nut. If it is far enough to be out of balance, the rotor heavy spot will drop to the lowest point. Basically, you are static balancing it on the car. One more thing, do you have a shimmy when you press the brakes at any speed?

The pedal never shakes or vibrates. I have had the wheels balanced but, I had the weights put inside of the wheels. The place where I had the tire mounted has a machine that can put the weights inside without causing a problem. I have put a indicator on the rotors to check run out.

did the shimmy start with the new tires ?

and beat shocks will alow the wheel to oscillate at some highway speeds.
