Anyone use webers and have to do emissions testing?
I live in Illinois near chicago and i have to go through emissions testing every other year. I am strongly considering buying a SC that has SSIs and Webers put on it. Will i have any hope of passing emissions, or is there something i can do to make it pass when it needs to? Thanks guys.

I recently sold my 76 that I put Webers on. Im no expert in Weber carb adjustments and fine tuning, and to be very frank, I thought the car was running rich at the time I sold it. Anyway, the new owner and I agreed that if I drop the price a bit, that he would take care of the emissions testing. Since it was a 76, a CAT was not necessary. This person took it randomly to an emissions test place and the car passed the SMOG! He called me right after that and told me the good news, and I was really happy for him that he didnt have to do anything else to make it pass.
And this is in California, the land of SMOG Nazis. I suppose the technician either didn't know or didn't care that the car isnt equipped with the factory FI system. I know that the SCs need a CAT among other things so I cant really tell you what to do in this case. But as far as Im concerned, if this CIS system thats currently on my SC do not improve its performance after I hook up other electrical components on it, Im going to yank that thing off and install the extra set of Webers Ive got lying around in the garage. Good Luck! |

emissions
You may need to change the emulsion tubes in the webers in
order to pass. |

emulsion tubes
According to a very reputable Porsche shop here in Phoenix,
emulsion tubes apparently leans it out somewhat to pass emissions. The price for the tubes and labor are in the $150 to $200 dollar range. I'd see if you can get through emissions first since this is a drastic measure. Make sure both banks are balanced first, that you have a good tune up and then see what happens. Here in Phoenix, emissions are getting tougher. According to the rules, you can change over from FI to carburetion provided that you keep all original emission equip. smog pump, cat , etc. 76 911S 66 912 V8 68 912 2.2 with nitrous 70 914 project car |
