Short stroke vs. Long Stroke?

I've been pondering engine options for an early car, and I got to thinking about the differences between short and long stroke...What are they? A 2.2L engine I've heard sounds the best and is revvy, but then a 2.4L has a lot more torque. Does the 2.4 rev slower or sound worse? It sounds as if the short-stroke engines produce more torque and power at higher RPMs, which would make sense because the crank would not have to travel as far, wouldnt take as long to get around...but do longer stroke motors have similar high-rpm characteristics while maintaining better low-end torque? Thanks

BTDT - Try checking the threads regarding "Short Stroke", "2.5 versus 2.7", etc.
