Carrera Sway Bar For SC

Thought I would post this snippet of info for anyone in the future doing this upgrade. 1986 - 1989 front 22mm sways will work on a SC ( part#911-333-703-13). However only the straight 21mm rear sway bar off a 1986 Carrera (part#911-333-701-10) will work as a upgrade. The newer 87-89 (part#911-333-701-11) 21mm sway bars from the G-50 will not work. I tried to install the G-50 bar this morning & it does go on, but rubs on the crossmember. A euro auto scrap yard sent me the wrong one, but I thought I could make it work, WRONG . Hope they will let me send it back & wish I would have bought it from Wayne in the first place. Thought I'd save myself $100 but instead it's a big PITA.
EDIT: Don't be a dumb ass like myself & install it upside down!!!

The 21mm bar from the G50 cars with the hump in it fits just fine on my 84 with a 915 gearbox. Just make sure the hump faces away from the car. The G50 is a bigger trans so the bar actually has plenty of clearance when installed this way on the 915 cars.

Is there more than one way to install the bar? When I attached it to the bushings & brackets, it fit, but when I moved it up & down simulating banana arm travel it rubbed against the transmission carrier. I have managed to install other parts upside down or backward, but don't see how that's possible with this. I can't mess with it again till Tuesday night, I take some pics then. I hope I'm wrong & can use this, It would save me alot of hassle & money. If anyone else has done this I'd like to here about it. In my research I noticed that Dr. Sopp used 89 bars.

Paul, Iwill try to take pic of mine for you on monday morning. PM me your home email address and I will send the pictures to you. You can compare them to your setup and then see what is up. I will also try posting them here, but sometimes I have a little trouble getting the image size small enough. ( I am the villiage idiot when it comes to computers)

Paul,

The 22,21 from 87-89 are supposed to fit okay. I got this recommendation before from many other SC drivers. Mine were purchased a while back with itnentions to refit the 83, but will throw it on the weissach as well. They better fit, or we'll have two 21's in the pelican mart! Did you do anything with the torsion bars or the rear mounts? I heard that if you do the 22/28 f/r torsion bars at the same time, the rear mounts are not a rick item... and that's why I haven't done the sways yet; no t-bars

my setup is 21/22 swaybars and 21/27 torsion bars with Koni sport shocks and struts. Handles very well.

Paul, if you have acess to a welder, right now would be a good time to reinforce the sway bar brackets if you havent' already done so. It's much easier than replacing the whole thing after it breaks or cracks.

Tony, I installed 22/29 torsion bars, & polygraphite bushings. I'm going to have JW weld up my mounts with extra material for reinforcement when he puts on my SSIs. I will make a special trip over to my car tomorrow (I use my mother-in-laws garage) to take some pics. I sure hope I can use it, I also had several people tell me I could.

Paul I am so envious of what your doing. What kind of price tag will you rack up on all your upgrades? I'm just trying to stay on the road! I wish I could dump the mother load
