Question Waxed with a spray can??

It looks sort like the PO waxed the car with a spray can, you know all of that white crap is stuck in all the crevices and what not. I have heard that Simple Green will remove the wax, and tried it on a limited basis by the lenses with sucess, but I wanted to appeal to the forum - what would you use to remove wax without damaging the paint?

I will also need to seriously clean the black parts. I put some Simple Green on a small area and so much black stuff came off, I wasn't sure if it was dirt or rubber!! Was it doing the job or more than the job. This was discussed once, regarding some re-blacking potion but I can't find the thread.

Thanks!

I've used Simple Green for this same purpose and it didn't harm the paint. I have a clear coat and I use all of the 3M products (rubbing compound, Imperial hand glaze and wax). Try it on a out-of-view spot to be sure your paint is OK, then go for it!

Be careful Steve, I've seen Simple Green take off paint when undilluted. Thin it, or try washing the car with Dawn, that's what Zaino recomends for removing wax on your car. That ought to take it off, then re-wax, and make it nice and pretty. Lots of people swear by Zaino Bros. www.zainostore.com but I haven't got around to ordering any, they're only avaliable via mail. Vinyl and rubber conditioner (Meguiars) helped the rubber on mine to regain some of it's blackness, I've seen a product, I think it's called forever black (?) that's supposed to restore the color to rubber/ trim, never tried it though.

A good clay system such as Groits or McGuires will take it off the paint. As for the black rubber bits, there's Black Chrome or Forever Black That will help rejuvinate(sp) it.

Classic question...waxes that don't leave that white residue if you don't get every freakin' bit. I've been told that Klasse doesn't leave marks on the rubber...what about the stuff that gets in cracks and only a toothbrush can remove...sigh, not waxing until I get this straight!

Steve,

There is a product called "Westley's Bleach White" that works excellent for removing wax, grime, etc from rubber and trim. It works very well on tires also. Try using it diluted at first as it's pretty strong stuff. The black you see on your rag is common and is old rubber residue mixed with dirt....you can rub all day and still get a black cloth......Rubber breaks down when exposed to UV.

Once you get all your rubber trim clean and looking decent, use "Mothers Back to Black" for protection and shine.

Liquid dish soap, particularly Dawn will strip off wax...

Getting wax off of paint shouldn't be that hard unless it is in a really hard to get to spot, but getting it off of the bumpers and black bits is horrible. Get one of these erasers, they do a pretty good job, probably 85-90%, at least.

Another vote for grease-cutting liquid dish soap...

It probably was not a "spray can". the PO more than likely had the car detailed before selling, and the is what is left of the glazing or buffing compound, they squirt it on in a puddle or lines all over the place, then hit it with the buffer, it slings that crap everywhere. Some of it does not really dry to white until some time has past. Like Erakad said "toothbrushes" will get it off, but it is a PITA, but you don't risk damaging the paint. As far as the black goes, the products mentioned before will work fine, you just have to take your time and be carefull, sometimes have black dye, and they will leave black where you don't want black. It will stain open paint. My 2cents$

I think the PO took pretty good care of the car, just wasn't too careful about waxing it in places it didn't need wax - like the air intake thing on the front hood.

I used a toothbrush on my Jeep once - really messed up the paint. To think I used that on my TEETH!!! Jeez.

I can attest to Dawn. Use it just like regular car soap (squirt in bucket add water). It takes off wax great, and I do useZaino Bros products - no more wax build up EVER.
Once you wash your car it will be unprotected so put something back on it.
As far as black, I like Black Again, it will clean off wax on the rubber.

Check this stuff out: Wax Blaster

I've never used it, but it looks promising. Good luck.
