Question 930 Brakes on SC?

I'm planning on installing 930 calipers and rotors front and rear on my '81 SC. I've tried searching and have found a lot of posts about 930 brakes on Carreras, but nothing on the install on an SC.

I know I will need either a 930 or a Mercedes master cylinder. As to the rotors and calipers, is either end just a "bolt on"? Is machining of the calipers needed to make them fit properly?

I'm staying with 16" Fuchs, right now 6s and 7s but will go to 7s and 8s or 9s.

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Richard

I believe the process is the same for SC's as Carrera's as the main difference between SC and Carrera brakes are the thickness of the rotors, size of the caliper pistons, and the Carrera has a pressure limiting valve, otherwise they are the same, so the 930 retro-fit should be the same.

I think you will have to machine the calipers a tad for fit.

The install is pretty much the same for a Carrera or an SC. The front calipers and '78-80 hats/rotors(or equivalent aftermarket items) are a bolt on as are the rear rotors. The only real issue is the machining necessary for the rear calipers. The front splash plates can be retained if desired but the rears cannot. Use an oem '78-89 930 m/c. The SCs don't have the p/v to remove.

If 7" front rims are used the front caliper fins will need to be ground down or wheel spacers used(though 944 7s do have more room for caliper clearance). In the back 8s will necessitate caliper fin grinding, 9s will not. I would get the 8s and 9s before the install and save yourself some hassle.

There may be a better option coming on the market soon that will be a better fit.

The rotors cahanged from 2 piece zero offset to 1 piece w/ integral offset that is only compatible w/ 930 9" flare front fenders.

What is this "better option" you mentioned?
