I must have pissed off my car, because now it won't let me in! The little spring loaded finger trigger on my 70 T door handle has now quit springing back, so I have to open the door from the inside. It's the drivers door, of course. So, can I take this apart and fix it, or do I have to order a new one (door handle, not the car)?

There are tons of used ones floating around if you can't get it sorted.

i know there is another thread on this same topic a few days ago. the cars were newer and myself and two others are in the same boat as you. i think some people posted that they had the parts for sale. they were all early 80's SC folks, but i think the parts would work. i seem to remember all the door handles were black, so i couldnt participate. but there was talk about splitting sets.
cliff. p.s. i am going to check some local pcar salvage yards tomorrow. you want me to look for yours too?

Look at the bright side, if it was a dog you'd find a puddle of something on the garage floor. Puddles of anything under my 911 are not a good thing.

My 911 has puddles under it too. If you wouldn't mind asking while you're there Cliff, I'd be interested to know what they go for used. It's a 70 T, chrome door handle. I'm going to take it apart tomorrow, maybe it's something simple that can be fixed, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Cliff, I'll tear it apart tomorrow and let you know what I find. If I need another, Oklahoma Foreign is only a state away, so I might try calling them. Otherwise I'll just wait and see what you can come up with, this is the downside to having your project and your daily driver be one and the same. Thanks

Banned but not out, yet..

I had something similar happen on my '73 except the door couldn't be opened from the inside either. The culprit was massive amounts of dirt and crud accumulated on the latching/locking assembly over the years. I managed to get the door panel off (not easy considering the door can't be opened). All I did was shoot the tweezle out of the locking mechanism with tons of WD-40 (collective gasp) and then wipe it down the locking/latching mechanism with clean cloths (collective sigh) until all traces of the WD were gone. The latch mechanism sprang back to life - no replacement parts needed.

Matt I had the same problem on my '72, also on the driver's side. Once you remove the handle/latch assembly you will probably find the part that holds the spring in for the trigger is broken. I was able to fix mine. It is pretty self explanatory once you have it out.

How did you fix yours Kurt? It was the piece that holds in the spring, I found it, the spring and a couple of other pieces in the bottom of the door. Can this piece be bought seperately? Otherwise, it looks like I'm in it for $75 + shipping to have unfixed pick up a new door handle for me (thanks).

I hope that's all that's involved, working inside that door is a b!tch as it is.
