Me so horny
Well, at least the car is. I am replacing my 930S steering wheel with a Nardi Fittipaldi wheel and I can't get the horn to stop. It goes on full blast unless I pull the relay.
The wheel came with the horn button on the left. Hooking up the single wire from the hub bearing ring to the single spade on this button works just fine. What I want to do is use the horn button on the right, which has the Porsche crest on it. Note that it has 2 spades. When I hook the single wire up to one of the spades, the horn will not honk at all. When I hook it up to the other spade, it won't turn off. To use the horn button with 2 spades, do I need to fabricate a ground wire for the second spade? Do I just secure one end on the ground spade and the other under one of the screws used to attach the wheel? Then attach the wire from the bearing ring to the hot spade? Thanks. ![]()

It's probably the ground, try it, how long could it take?

The spring wire should be the ground. My guess is that one of the spades is connected to the spring wire - for whatever reason. Use a multi-meter or some other simple continuity test to see if the spring wire is connected to one of the spades.
On MOMO wheels, the ground is through the hub adapter to the column. On some Nardis that I've seen, they use a non-conductive hub adapter, so that may explain why someone added a second spade - the spring wire ground would not work if one used, say, an aluminum hub adapter.

Ok is the right assenbly an after market button? Most stock buttons have 2 points of contact. The brass wire arrangement on the side and a single contact on the bottom.
Since one contact is always on and and the other is always off. I think you'll need to make a ground wire for the the other connector. Easy enough to test. Most if not all horn buttons just ground the horn relay. So as long as you don't hook up any live wires to it you should be ok.

Well, I added a ground wire and I am still getting the same results - horn is always on. I am using the hub adaptor that came with the original horn button with a single spade since I did not get a second horn adaptor with the new horn button. Both buttons were sourced directly from Nardi. Any other ideas?

Inside the horn button is a simple contact switch. Use your multi-meter to find out which connections are open (infinite resistance) or closed (near zero resistance) with the horn button out of the hub. Easy test. If you don't have a multi-meter, any low volt DC device will do - a flash light bulb for instance.

Sounds a little more complicated than hooking up a ground to the second terminal. If the horn blows when connected to it then it's already grounded (I assume you mean it blows after the button is installed?) And if the horn never works when connected to the other terminal, it sounds like you don't have continuity between the two when the button is pressed. Get a ohm meter or test light and test the button first. It should be open (no cont.) when not pressed and closed or cont. when you press on it. Then test from terminal 2 to the spring. If that is good then you don't have a ground through the hub like a previous post said, and you can add a ground wire. My bet is that you need to open the button and clean the contacts.
WHat are you gonna do with that 930s wheel??? ![]() Please pm me if you are going to part with it, thanks.

If he needs to open the button he might as well switch the piece with the logo to the button that works.

ground issue...two wires, just test them.

I'll test the wires and see what happens.
The 930S wheel was sold before it even came off the car, though funds have not arrived yet. I'll keep you in mind if it falls through.

Took the horn buttons apart and found the problem - I was scammed and sold a fake button. The two pronged button was not made by Nardi, the manufacturer was someone named 'Jet'. (The single pronged button that came with the wheel was stamped 'Nardi).
More importantly, the metal Porsche crest on the front was stuck on the front with masking tape. The reason why it would not work is because the diameter of the crest piece was too large. The edge was catching the rim of the surrounding button and not allowing the button to compress completely. I figured this out when I removed the taped on crest and the button worked fine. If the vendor does not make things right my fix will be to glue some washers on the back of the crest so that the button will be able to compress completely before the edge catches. Here is the vendor: http://www.nardiusa.com/intropage.htm Avoid this guy like the plague.

NardiUSA is a cyber-squater and has had several legal run-ins with Nardi. I think they fought to a tie, but unfortunately this outfit still has the NardiUSA.com URL. The actual Nardi company doesn't have a US website at all. I can get you contact information for their US sales office if that will help.
Jet is an Italian company that makes horn buttons and hub adapters that they say are useable on both Nardi and Momo products, but the workmanship and quality are spotty at best.

Here is a picture of the wheel installed. You can get a better look of the button on the website, its under the 'Modern' group.
THe 930S wheel and hub are clearly of higher quality. I am noticing that the hub on this wheel makes a little bit of a rubbing sound that I never had with the 930S wheel. I do like the thinner grip and larger diameter, however, at least for a track car. ![]()

Hi jakermc, is your wheel serial numbered, just below the Fittapaldi name? Have had mine on since 97, feels great. Very comfortable to hang on to. Has no rubbing sounds though, maybe the rubber sleeve, that looks like a billows is deformed a little and rubbing when it turns.

No, mine does not have the serial number below the name. I've seen a few generations of this wheel and they have made minor changes in that area. If I remember right, the early runs had the name Fittipaldi engraved into the wheel. Now they are just plastic emblems.
The rubbing is certainly a hub problem. I was not able to find a Nardi hub, instead I am using one from Luisi. The sleeve is plastic, not rubber, and I think the rubbing is from the bottom of the hub making contact with the plastic that surrounds the turn signal/wiper stalks. I'll give it a little time to see if it wears itself down, otherwise I'll do a little surgery with my dremel to sand it down a bit.
