Porsche Crest door handles 1974 ????

I have a 1970 911 T with 1974 or 75 doors on it. The outside handles do not work. I can open the doors from the inside. I have looked at the other Tech topics on this but don't see anything that will specifically tell me what to look for. I can see the handle moving a spring above the latch assembly but don't know if it is not moving far enough or if something is broken. I have pulled the parts diagram off our webmasters page but still don't know what to do from here.

I think the part the spring attaches to is what normally breaks, at least that's what's broken on mine. I have the old trigger style handles, $75 for a used one, roughly $300 new, ouch! I don't know about the new style ones though.

Where do I look to check for that? Is is right behind the handles trigger or down by the latch mechanism?

Both handles? Anyway on mine the trigger broke at the pivot point. It didn't go all at once, it developed a crack on one side of the pivot area allowing the pivot hole to widen. Eventually you can't make the trigger pivot or teeter-totter enough to push the mechanism. Loosen the two bolts from inside the hollow part of the door. The interior handle, pocket, inside trim have to come off to get to the bolts that hold on the outside handle assembly. I think there is something else attached to the handle you have to loosen, the lock arm perhaps. Once you have the handle assembly out you can see what's wrong.

Once you get it apart it may be obvious, when I took off my door panel I found the broken pieces in the bottom of the door, so that answered my question. Unless it's something loose/ not hooked up, you're stuck buying new or used exterior handles and stealing parts off of them. If you have the later style handles it may be cheaper than mine, try calling some Porsche salvage yards.

Actually, one side just needs to be cleaned. The other had two screws that had come loose. Once they had been replaced it worked ok.
