Are these steps in Bentley manual necessary for engine removal?
I may not be seeing something obvious here, but...
Removing engine/tranny together... Items #1 and #2 in this pic are a must, but can't items #3 and #4 actually be done AFTER the engine/tranny unit is out? ![]() And can't the A/C compressor mounting plate be left on as well? ![]() |

Steps 3 & 4 are much easier to do while you are under there, but you can do them later if you really want to. Just don't let the arm hit you when you pull it off.
![]() The a/c adapter doesn't look like it really needs to come off prior.

Thanks for answering that, Ryan. That injury has to be one of the strangest (looking) I've seen.
I actually ran across a previous (cstreit) thread that asked my same question. One answer was same as your's: easier to accomplish before drop. The other had to do with potentially damaging some of those lever items on a cart or dolly after the eng/t unit is out due to crushing. |

You still need to make sure to watch the shaft after the arms are off it. It seems to me that if you are going to separate the engine and tranny anyway, then it's easier to have it ready to go when it hits the dolly, you are under there anyway.
That little injury (it wasn’t nearly as bad as it looks) was do purely to inexperience. I now know to hold the arm when taking off the circlip. ![]()
