Big Brake Question??????????
I resently purchased a set of big brakes for my SC race car project. I'm having a hard time figuring out what they come off. They are the same size as a Big Red and they bolt on like a Big Red with the two bolts going down through the caliper, but they have the raised Porsche type like an older caliper and they are black. The only P/N's I can find are 20 4702 00 and 20 4701 00. The biggest problem I have is that I think I received 2 left hand calipers. The bleeders are at the right ends but these can be moved to either side so that doesn't help. What is the difference beween a left and right and why can't you use them one either side of the car? Thanks. Paul

No those arn't them. I wish they were. I think they must be from a 928 of some kind since they have the raised type and I believe Porsche stopped using the raised type some where around 1990.

I doubt that they are the Big Reds of any color. They do sound like 928 S4 calipers from a 928. The only difference besides color and mounting position is that a Big Red is ~10mm taller than the 993/S4
When mounted the bleeds need to be at the top with the smaller piston in the leading position, i.e. the small piston is the first to greet a rotor segment.

The part numbers you list seem no help, unfortunatly.
If they are S4, FYI, some had smaller pistons than the later ones (42mm/ 36mm instead of the later 44mm/ 36mm) and thus shift the brake balance a little to the rear. If you can measure the pistons you might be able to ID the calipers...
