Calling all valance/rear bumper replacers...
Did you notice a significant/noticeable performance increase with the lightness you added? Isnt the difference around 150lbs? I would figure that would be equiv to a 19hp increase--worth few tenths 0-60 and better stopping and handling.
Aside from the asthetics improvements, is it worth the $1000+ investment for performance?

150? You might want to drop the 0 and you would be closer. The rear bumper and rockers with all the rubber weighs about 40-50lbs. A glass one weighs about 15lbs.

I think there is a noticeable difference in my car without the heavy bumpers. I can't say for sure, but I think there is more than just a 30-40lb weight savings. If it is only that much, consider that the weight saved is at the furthest ends of the car and track handling will be greatly improved.

Too big to fail

I bought a fiberglass rear bumper off of ebay, coincidently from another pelican person. After trimming some PO mods, and making cutouts to fit the B&B tailpipes, it weighs a little over 4 lbs.

The 150 lb figure I remember hearing includes removing all bumper peices including bumper shocks and other assoc hardware and replacing with fabricated lightweight bumper mounts. A number of people have done this mod and an accurate weight loss figure is out there I'm sure.

My rear bumper with all the fixins was nearly 60 lbs. What I added back was a total of around 8, so a net loss of around 50 lbs. Front was a similar loss maybe a bit more. I also removed the spare, unneeded tools jack etc. these totaled around 60lbs as well. Removed seats for a net loss of 7 pounds each, and removed rockers for a loss of about another 25 lbs total. (I was suprised how heavy those were). Also door panels for around a 3 pound drop each... do the math. Oh, and went back to Fuchs from BBS, for a rolling weight loss of about 5-7lbs per wheel.

I just swapped an RSR bumper onto the front of my car, and I *really* noticed the difference. I'm sure the rear bumper will be a HUGE difference with the polar moment of the car.

Ruf style f/r bumper cap and cooler will save ~20#s front and 15#s rear. These are not estimates, they are measured results(fogs removed as well)
All #s are not equal in their effect, these #s, situated at the extreme ends of the car, have a significant effect on the cars handling. If you can live w/ the increased vulnerability to normal parking lot type incidents they will provide a meaningful improvement in the feel of the car.
