Anyone thought of putting together a Carrera FAQ?
When I had my e46 M3 I used to hang out at roadfly alot for info... One of the members put together a FAQ because alot of the same questions came up frequently. I know we have a great search function here but some threads have extremely good content and it would be nice if they were compiled for easy of pointing people to. I can think of a couple topics that should go in right away:
1. Ride height adjustment - how to 2. mods - what are common mods and how to - even include lorens comments for reference ![]() 3. what's that fuel smell??? 4. AC - conversion pros cons / how to get temp down 5. sway bar brackets - yes they brake and it's common. How to fix I know there's much much more to add and I'm thinking about compiling thread links and putting up a site to reference. The thing I'm wanting is members DIY experience to help us new to these cars that want to DIY, or at least diagnos problems prior to handing it over to a pro. Knowledge is good!!! I am not trying to leave out the sc, s, early car guys but since I own a carrera that's what I'm intereted in. I'm sure someone could whip FAQs together for them as well. |

Yea I have that book. It still doesn't answer the basic questions that are asked here. How many times have you told someone "do a search there are a hundred threads on that topic"? Those are the things that would be good compiled. I may be off base here but it sure would be nice.

I know your feeling, There are but a few that would tell you how to do something technical. If it's chatting there's reply, if not you have to do a search and sometimes get lucky, but not the likely info we are looking for. I also have a carrera and books don't tell you hands on experience that you would expect to find in this forum.
I thank the one's that actually know what there talking about and do respond

I think we all use all of the tools we are given. For my technical problems, I tend to use the books to get an idea of the job and the BBS's to answer specific questions. If you check some of my recent activity on lock rekeying, you will see what I mean. I agree that searching is difficult at times and you can get too many "hits" on some of the more common topics. I will at times suggest that others do a search to get tier answers but I usually do one first toverify that they can find what they need. Part of my resoning has to do with the give them a fsh vs teaching one to fish type of actions. I reality, what we nned is a tech section where some of the more detailed solutions that appear in these threads are stored. Like you indicate one could be "I smell Fuel". Another is ride height adjustments.. Etc Etc. Rennlist has a group of these already BTW. In my (somewhat terse) original reply I wanted to be sure not only you but others knew that there was life beyond factory manulas, haynes and bentley. Best of luck.

Go to the bottom of this forum click on Pelican Parts, click on Porsche, look on left side and go to tech articles. You might want to add some articles there

I think adding to the tech section is a good idea. There's always someone who has traveled down the wrong path and made mistakes or who has found a good way to something. Lot's of trial and error as with anything outside the scope of a (book for idiots). I am an engineer and like anything like to start something with as much helpful info. up front. I love doing all my own work, but there's always someone out there that can do it better and much faster (comes with experience)
Just another 2cents ---

I more than welcome tech article additions. I think we have something like 350 in the Porsche 911 section alone...

![]() Anywho, i'd recommend adding a "G50 Clutch Update" article to the Carrera FAQ. I've replied to this such topic a bunch of times with a handful of part numbers, diagrams and other people's experiences/recommendations.

Fat girls and SC's = both fun to ride until your friends see you on one.
