Who are we

Hello,

I am a member of the local PCA club (as I hope most of you are), and I can see 2 types of members:

1: reasonably wealthy peoples that have 1 (or more nice to extremly nice toys), they tend to represent 30% of the active members (but a larger proportion of the non active members)

2: less wealthy peoples with 2nd hands car (I am not talking about a fully restored 356 or similar), that have a passion for the cars (or a dream), they usually drive less expensive models and represents around 70% of the active members...

I was wondering where the pelican part BBS standed? (I am myself in the 2nd category)

I'm at number 2. I have my 911, a boxter and a heavily moded saab. But I still rent my house because I can't afford one here in Marin right now. Maybe it's time to sell the boxter??-naaaaaahhhh.

Why do you hope that? Other than access to the PCA online classifieds (which I don't need now that I have my car, but needed before I got it, but you can't join without owning one...hmmm...that's a conundrum), I don't see much use. Yes, I'm a PCA member, but for the life of me I can't figure out why.

Wow must be one of those days we've had a who are we thread now a what are we thread.

I dont think you need to differentiate between the wealthy and the not so well off on the Pelican board it seems that everyone is on here because they have a passion for the cars.
But I still come under No.2

I'd be a #2 if I could afford one... I guess I am a #3. People who are members without an actual car...

Like most things in life you only get back what you put in. Every one seems to complain about the PCA, but our members now that's conundrum. I have attended several events and found the camaraderie of others with a similar passion alone worth my membership.

Wrong! I am a BMWCCA card carrying member for 15 years. Never joined the PCA eventhough I have owned Porsche 911 for about 12 years. Never saw the reasons, the needs, and Panorama is not even in the same league as the Roundel. The PCA parts discount at dealer can be had by merely smiling, and asking nicely, and sometimes you get that anyway without asking.

I am certainly in the used cars low budget not well-to-do type of owners category.

Well I might like the PCA if the closest one to me wasn't 150 miles away!

Funny, I joined before owning the 911, I just put on the form the car that I "Hoped" to buy :-)
I then proceeded in step and bought a model one that I painted the color I wanted :-)

I guess hope because it shows support for the peoples who try to help other porsche owners, like being a member of this bbs...

I thought you couldn't joing PCA w/o a car. They asked for my VIN. I had that dumb Quest membership that is non-transferable. So I actually joined and now get 2 copies of Panorama.

I am in the #2 category. Mine toy is second hand and I want to play!!!! Dammit it's too cold out

i can sum it up like this, for the most part your pelican guys will be, as you put number 2's. if you want the number ones you go to the rennlist 993/996 boards.

where does this leave R-gruppe, or the early-s registry? would they be 3's, 1.5's, or 2-A's ?

I made it into #1 a few years ago but sunk back into #2 after the stock market crash. I did lease a nice "technology-bubble" Boxster S during that time however. The only new Porsche I will ever "have."

I would be in the 2nd group, but I think my car is 42nd hand.

I'm a somewhat poor college student and my car was a hand-me-down, guess I don't fit either category, but I aspire to be a #1.

We are in category #2. We joined in the fall of 2002 when we got the '74 911 and are glad we did. We have met lots of nice people who share our love of Porsche cars and we enjoy ourselves. In the SEMPCA (SouthEast Michigan Region), people from "both" groups get along well and mingle freely. I thought some would make fun of my old car, but nobody did!!!
