HELP!!! I need a Z-block dial gauge holder

I just found out that my week old order for this from PP is on some indefinite back order and I can't finish my engine rebuild without it!!! Does anyone have one I can beg, borrow or steal???? Please, please, please? If not, I guess I'll have to rig up some other arrangement. I need the Z-block and extension. Willing to pay any reasonable price for it.

You can do what I did. Drill a .25 x 1 x 6 inch steel bar, cold rolled is fine, on one end so that it will fit over the nearest valve cover stud. Put a washer and nut on to hold the plate still (not too tight, don't want to damage the sealing surface). Now you can use a magnetic base to hold the dial indicator. Make double sure you get the dial indicator perpendicular to the spring and valve.

John, thanks for a most excellent idea! I'm off to the Lowes tonight to find some .25 steel!

Anything works as long as its magnetic. 1/8" thick would probably work too. The bar will sit diagonally across the head.

Since I used the magnetic base, I could drop the dial indicator down in the head further and didn't need an extension.

Let me know, I may be able to dig up picture if needed.

Good luck!

Kurt...

If you're not in a hurry, I can make one of these for you...

Appreciate the offer Chris, but I want to get this damn rebuild back on track! I am going to use your pic and John's idea, along with my drill press and welder and just make a damn holder. I should have done it in the first place!

I don't know who told you they were on "indefinite backorder" but I got them in today. I will FedEx one to you for the weekend.

Please confirm via email...
