Can you SMOG a car before registration is due?
A friend who owes me a favor has a smog station at his garage. I don't think my car is due for smog till May or June. The offer of a "friendly" inspection may not last till then. Can I get my car smogged before it's required by the California DMV?

someone told me the smog cert is only valid for 90 days-I don't know if that is true. Lar

Only 90 days, or else you do it again. But, you can do it in say Feb 1, wait 89 days, and go down to the AAA and pay your registration on April 30, and they will take your money. They like it early.

You will get your notice at least two months before it's due. If you think the 90 days will fall in w/ that go for it! It sounds like it might.

It might be worth a try but if you get hit for a "Test Only" station smog check and the one you have done isn't you're going to have to get the test only station check done. I know that the last 2 for 83 944 and 79 911were test onlystation checks (#3 coming up on 944and is test only) 911 coming up around April and am willing to bet it will be the test only station dyno test. Just a thought.

Once a car is a test only, always a test only, ask me how I know.
 But if you have a good smog guy, there are ways around it.
