High voltage at 3500 rpms....
Blondie the 914/6 has 16 volts at 3500 rpms when measured at the battery. The new looking battery has 12.5 volts at rest but seems to be taking what I think is high voltage.
I swapped out the Bosch regulator with a known new in box one.....I DON'T know what aletenator is in there....mid engine remember? Would one of those French alternators show high charging volts with a Bosch regulator?

Since stock 914-6s share the same engine with 911Ts, the alternator should be the same: Marchal, I believe.
If the charging system was working before, the alternator may have been replace at some point. Yes, 16 volts is too high. Battery will overheat and die eventually. Charging voltage should be around 14 volts. Sherwood |

So....I replace the Bosch regulator with.....?
BTW, it's a 2.7....not a stock 2.0. Same answer?

"So....I replace the Bosch regulator with....."
.... whatever regulator matches the alternator. If a Bosch is THE one, then the Bosch replacement. Since the alternator seems to be outputting nicely (albeit too much), the regulator seems to be the problem. Sherwood |

You can adjust the regulator for the right voltage by removing the cover and bending the tab to reduce spring tension to lower the voltage and increasing tension to increase voltage.

Have you checked the V output ever before this time and was it correct before? Given this is a 4/6 conversion you may need to verify the charging system wiring to be sure the reg. is in the system correctly.

A 2.7? HIstory unknown? I'm wondering if somebody along the line may have installed one of the later alternators that has the internal V regulator, then also hooked up the external V regulator?

Two regulators in line would cause high volts? Kinda doubt that....

I dunno...kind of hoping Loren, Warren, or one of the electrical experts would weigh in here. But I do recall that a hook up with bolth V regs on line is a definite no-no.
