Tell me if I am crazy, for making this offer?

I have watched this car come up in several discussions, and have found it to be a nice looking car. I am about how clean a car is, would spend more time cleaning it then driving it. The seller claims it to be a good driving car.

1982 911SC with 128K miles
Original Guards Red paint with Camel interior
OEM Polished 7&8X16 Turbo Fuchs with brand new Bridgestone 205/55 & 225/50 ZR tires
74 Carrera graphics and ducktail (MA Shaw tail, prepped and color matched correctly)
Lowered and corner balanced
Records and service history
Newer clutch and perfect syncro’s in all 5 gears
No oil leaks or usage
No accidents or repaints
Perfect interior including the dash, all carpets, door pockets, and other areas of usual wear
Driver seat and OEM steering wheel included and also in perfect condition
6 disk Sony CD with cassette
Updated A/C
Original tool kit, unused and still in protective clear plastic bag
Original owners manuals
Original Deck lid with SC emblem
Bilstein sport shocks and struts with strut tower brace
Cruise control, power windows and power mirrors
Cover and 2 piece bra with mirror bras and vintage red floor mats
Perfect top with no flaws or leaks
New windshield

I would remove the carrera script from the side, and that is about it.

I made an offer of 16K, and backed out, but sent an e-mail again saying I was interested.

Your thoughts please

Michael

isn't that the one in Sacto? Did it pass a PPI? If it is clean and you want a red targa with a ducktail, why not? It is a bit over market for the mileage, but it depends on the condition and how much stuff has been replaced.

At the end of the day, do you want to keep looking for more months to save a few $K?

That looks like Car-reras duck. It looks very clean. I personally like the Carrera script, so I would leave it on.

If you make another offer, just don't back out again (not good form), that is unless it doesn't pass a PPI.

Good luck!

no Paul, I've just learned a little bit

Having been through the eternal looking, afraid to pull the trigger, find the deal merry go round, and having a few life changes (not to mention having my car whacked and in the shop), I'm in more of a "life is short" mode. Time spent looking is time where you're not driving. While I think you have to be patient and not buy a crappy car, in the end almost all of these cars are rolls of the dice, so you figure out what you want, find a good example, and start driving (and opening wallet).

I can't remember who has it in their sig, but something about no one on their death bed saying they regretted buying and driving the Porsche...

Get a PPI. If any big surprises come up then adjust your offer accordingly. I think you could find an equivalent car for less in this market, but this one's available now. You obviously like it, so go for it.

See what happens when you hit a big chunk of concrete on the fwy.
You have a near Porsche experience

And with all kidding aside, It's something as simple as that concrete that could take a guy out. Happens all the time.

Glad your still Rockin, Todd

I was rockin' until Sunday...after rehearsal my thumb joint started hurting until the point where I got excrutiating pain whenever I moved my left hand. Not good for someone who writes left handed, plays bass, and has studio time booked at the end of the month.

Finally abated somewhat today. Doc today after xrays says arthritis. Ice and drugs, cortisone shot if it is flaring and I have to record or something. For two days I thought I wasn't going to be able to play any instrument any more.

Life is short. Have fun while you can.

Nice looking car, if PPI checks out I'd say buy it. I also like the script.

It does look like a nice, clean car, however, it does seem pricey compared to others in it's range (offered at $18.5K). If it's *exactly* what you are looking for, then buy it, but if it's not then keep looking. While I have seen 911SCs go 200K and more, 128K miles is a lot of miles on an engine that hasn't been rebuilt. You have to factor in that it may need a rebuild in the semi-near future. Also, I don't see Carrera chain tensioners on there either.

he is hoping that in spring time, the sun will beckon lovers of targa tops in Sacramento. He can dream on, while you can be moving on. It is too expensive for my blood.

The spring time huh? On a 17k car exactly what does he think is going to happen in the spring? If you're selling a 50 or 80k car thats a rag top and you're hard up for the extra grand or 2 it might bring in the spring thats one thing. There may be more potential buyers in the spring but there are enough of these cars around that the price is not going to move much in real dollars. Personally I think its a 13 to 15 k car anytime of year. If you really want to get technical whats the current owners cost to carry the car for 3 more months? He's giving up the small return he'd make on that money in pocket and he's putting more mileage on the car plus risking accident and breakdown. So if he's really a seller is the extra hundred or 3 really worth the wait to sell this car?

The Seller is very proud of this car, and we all think our cars our worth more then they are.

I am sure that if it was ment to be, I will get the car. I am looking at a 81SC today. Red with Black which is the color I prefer.

Michael

We go to Geno's across from Pats, I ride with the owner. We're going down to the Linc for Sundays game.. When I lived in Santa Monica there was a place on 26th street where Eagles fans used to watch the game. I used to go every Sunday. I think it was called The Shack. Do you know the joint? We used to eat lame cheesesteaks for breakfast during the games!

Geno's sucks. Pat's is much better and their staff much ruder. Even better is Appetites Delight in Wayne or D'Alessandro's in Roxboro.
