kept my cool at the DMV today.

after waiting 1.5 hours at the DMV the nice lady behind the counter asked me for my smog cert, for my 1975 911. i calmly said, "isnt it exempt?"
she said, "no, it is next year, in 2005."
my mind said, "effing A!"
i said outloud, "are you sure? well please give me a PNO".

just then her supe heard us talking and said that i was right! aha! i was about to break into, "this guy on the pelican forum, Mikez, said it was the year minus 29 = year exempt". but i figured it would have fallen on deaf ears. have you ever noticed the people applying for drivers licsences? they cant even figure what line to stand in! how are they going safely negotiate live traffic lanes?

oh well, my car is now LEGIT!
bay area guys, keep an eye out for me. look for the tiny light blue smoketrail.

Congrats. You must have noticed the sign the says, "It is against the law to threaten an employee."

I'm sure there was good reason to put up that sign.

Oh, you don't have one in your DMV? (I saw it at the Compton DMV, less lines beacuse it's a damn scary place. Compton is a damn scary place.)

I used to drive down to San Clemente to the DMV. At first it was in a trailer. Then they built the real office. Now, they've closed it. Nice. But the point was, I could spend an hour on the freeway but walk right up to the window. Less time overall.

Don't you just love how people at the DMV will say stupid crap and totally think its 100% correct? It's amazing how much of the publics time is wasted by inept and stupid DMV workers.

Yes, I've had similiar experiences but they didn't end that well. Luckily I kept my cool and just waited the extra 2-3 hours to get my DMV crap done.

The DMV is where the phrase "Lowest Common Denominator" came from.

I believe many of the workers at the DMV are people that couldn't get into the post office, another bunch of inept, arrogant bastards!! It's amazing how we are herded like cattle in these places to our final destination,at the window staring at some dolt that can hardly fog a mirror, and our fate is in their hands, yikes!!!!!

The DMV in California offers APPOINTMENTS! You can do it online of call their number. Really, truely worked for me. The night before I informed my wife that I needed to go to the DMV and expected the morning to be shot. She told me to get an On-line appointment. Within five min I had a choice of times for the next AM - I picked 9:20.

I checked in at the desk and was assigned a number. I sat down with the others and noticed a screen listing the numbers being served. Within seconds my number was called and I was helped at the counter.

Don't knock the DMV regarding waiting unless you try this!

AMEN! After my last run in with the DMV, I learned that I could get it all done at AAA.

It was like going from riding on the back of a bus to riding in first class on the Concord. That good.

There is nothing in the world that smells worse that the Bellflower DMV.

There used to be a DMV that was in a trailer in the Laguna hills area, is that the same one you are talking about Milt? That's where I registed my very first Porsche back in 1979.

You've got the right idea. In BC we've had private companies doing most of the registration and licence plate transactions for decades. In the last 23 years I've never seen a lineup. And you walk out of there with your tags in hand, none of this mail them to you crap.

The DMV in Arlington, VA is full of immigrants (of all races). What is the deal? Are they the only ones that have licensing issues? Really weird.

Totally true Sam. I'm guessing they're the only people who can't do most of their DMV business online. It's quite a sight to behold when my surname is the easiest one to pronounce ober the loudspeaker. I wonder where they all come from. Every time I go to traffic court or DMV, the employees all act relieved because I speak English.

It is calculated from the production year. So 1978 was built in 1977, so add 30 years to the 1977 to get 2007 calendar year. Yours is exempted staring in January 1, 2007.
