Tips for removing battery box?

The surgery starts this weekend to remove one of the battery boxes from my RS replica track car - need more room for air flow and to add a fan to my fender mounted oil cooler (one spoiler mounted cooler already destroyed - not doing another).

So, anyone done it? Tips??

Cheers - Ryan

ps: What fan's are recommended?

eehm , looks like a straight forward job to me

the metal of the box isn't that thick , so i guess you should be able to cut it off pretty easy if you have the right tool...

my only comment would be , where will you attach your spoiler on?

it attaches to the battery boxes , guess you could screw it against the fender, but don't know how well that will hold it when theres vibrations and windpressure at high speeds.

and how are you going to mount the oil cooler? the fender is no good, i assumed that most people actually mounted it on the battery box?

If you are not going to use the hole left from the box, cut the wheelhouse with plasma or cutoff wheel, weld in a panel to complete the wheelhouse. if you are doing some ductwork, say an RS front spoiler with ducting out both battery boxes to side mounted coolers flush to the wheelhouse rather than factory mounted where the wheel throws chunks of debris and therefore needs a vented stone panel , leave the frame of the box for fabricating to. food for thought, eat my words :>) funny ha!

I used a cutoff wheel and an air body saw. Then welded in a new panel, oil cooler brackets, and a newly fabricated fender support.
