964 Decklid on an Early Widebody

Just to see how it would look, I fitted my 964 decklid on the 1972 widebody. Here are three pictures:

Jack, that looks awesome on your car.

I could drive behind your call all day! Of course I have a feeling I'd be behind it even if I didn't want to. :P

I know that won't work on the track for you, BUT it sure looks sweet!! Blends well with the curves.

Actually, there's a correct piece from just about every period.

Jack,

I just noticed something interesting. Is the rear glass flush with the roof line? The first picture looks normal, but the 2nd and 3rd look like the Lexan (?) is flush with the trailing edge of the roof.

Is it lexan? Was it bonded to a custom inner frame?

Flush would be good...if you are not concerned with ventilation...

The first picture creates an optical illusion. It is flush. The lexan sits in a fiberglass (or ABS?) frame. I'm sure the flush-ness gets me a 30 or 40 rpm advantage at redline in fifth, and every little bit of aero helps on a car with as big a frontal-area as this one.

I like that tail and theres nothing like a little varity.

You could probably put an old primered tail free lid on there and it would look good, Jack

The lid looks very clean. Great way to cruise around the street. You just have too much time on your hands. But those track days are coming up fast. I don't think that lid will be on there too much longer.

Maybe Dave will chime in with more details, but yes, it's from TRE. What's nice about the frame is that you don't have to use the factory seal, or put in metal strips to reinforce the Lexan. The downside is that the Lexan makes noise (like you're inside a styrofoam cooler), and you need to seal around the frame piece for weatherproofing.

I am partial to cars with tails, but that looks extra sweet on your car.

It looks nice! I agree, a shot of the car with the tail "up" would be great.

Looks good. Every time I look at a pic. of the rear end of your car I always wonder what size of tire you have and how much cambers' on the wheels. Those hudge wheels make BB2 look like one bad to the bone car.
