My Winter Projects Update - like usual, long

Hi Guys.

I hope you all don't mind, but I'm kinda using this BBS to chronical the work histrory on my car. I am a pretty verbose guy, so if you don't want me to post this kinda long winded stuff, let me know.

I'm hoping that some of the things I'm doing will motivate others to get on with their winter projects and start getting ready for spring!! Nuff sed.

You may remeber my previous post when I bought my Japanese ROW Pcar.

So I bought a Porsche (very long) opinions please

Since that post, I've done the following stuff;

Pop-off valve is done.

Replaced the heater blower motor and installed a wide version A/C Grill (whatever it's called) on the decklid (ya I'm gonna get it charged this year an see what porsche aircon is all about. heh heh.)

New rear seatbelt plastic covers. What a ***** these bolts were to take off. Two of them I stripped to hell (completely round, vise grips nothin would work) but managed to get them off with a stripped head removal tool. What a life saver. I looked on PP and the bolts cost $30 each. Holy cow. So I gave the two stripped bolts to my dad and he took them to work and got one of his millwright's to weld and machine new bolts heads on these for free. Excellent job the bolts worked and look great. By the way, what the hell kinda rear seat do I have?!? I've never seen ones like this one any pcar. The car was imported from Japan, but I don't know what that would have to do with it.

My friend bought me Rennline pedals w/toe heal and dead pedal for my bday. Can't wait to try these out.

I also could not stand being without a drink holder, so I ordered the one from PP and I think it is just awsome. Very durable, comfortable as an arm rest, and well made! It also tucks back so its it completely out of the way if you want! And, it actually looks stock!! Very cool!!

My porsche guru friend ordered my SSI heads and Dansk DI/SO muffler, so in the mean time, I removed my exhaust. Stu told me to just undo the twelve head nuts (need the right tool), undo the heater hoses, muffler straps , O2 sensor, and just let it drop. Sure enough, it was that simple and dropped right out (with minor coaxing). Took about 1.5 hours to get it out and be done with it. Very easy to do, I was amazed. BUT, I did heat up the car two days in a row proior to the removal and sprayed tonnes of penetrating oil on head nuts, O2 sensor and muffler strap bolts when the engine got hot.

And this is the tool Stu lent me to remove the allen bolts and nuts. Worked great!

So, now I wait for my exhaust parts to come in (should have them by next week), but in the mean time, I will be dropping the engine/tranny with Stu and he's gonna take my gearbox away to fix my 1st gear syncro, grinding problem. Meanwile I'll be installing the Carrera chain tensioners update while the engine is out and I may detail the engine and compartment it a bit. We then put it all back together with my new exhaust. and at this point I would consider it to be an impeccable car personalized to my tastes. It sure does take a lot of work to personalize you car eh?!? The 930S steering wheel also looks very very tasty.

I CAN BARELY WAIT to have her on the road again. I figure I'll be re-insuring my car in april. I should be done all my upgrades by next month though, so we'll see how itchy it gets. My god I am speding to much mony on this hobby, but loving every minute.

Let me know if I should or not continue to post these kinds of updates guys, I don't want to waste your time/webspace.

Take care all.

Awesome! This is good stuff, it helps others who may be looking into doing similiar projects. Post more if you like, it only helps.

Do you have circlips on your oil expansion tubes? I have the same type of aluminum oil return tubes and the PO never installed the clips that prevent the tubes from collapsing and falling out. Maybe it was just the angle of the picture?

See this thread if you don't have the clips installed.

Steven,
Great job. The A/C part under the deck lid is the condenser. You should cap the ends of the tube on the driver side if the hose is going to be disconnected for some time.
Good luck,
