Help on ways to lower 911 driving postion?

Any ideas from any tall blokes? (ideas not dependant on hight)

I'm 6'4" and find my head touches sun roof on my '73 911. I bought the car as a daily driver (eta end of Feb) but would perfer to drive "extended" neck not "turtle" neck.

I've thought about welding a plate and bolting the seat directly to the floor but this means I would need my wife (5'8") to under go a primate arm/leg extension. Although this might be the purer approach (and I understand it's merits) I think the easier option for me would be to modify seat.

Any ideas?

Cheers James

At only 5'-10", I never really considered your problem. It must be very frustrating. There wouldn't seem to be many options for you, especially with the "wife requirement". Would reclining more help? My seat has a power raise/lower button that is only good for an inch or so, but It might be worth looking into some sort of mod to extend it's travel. Maybe combined with floor mounting, you could get close.

Good luck

Maybe a different seat with a lower / thinner cushion.

As a rule, power seats ride higher. If yours is powered, you may want to switch to a manual. Also, find a custom fabricator that can create a new seat bottom that is thinner (it will ride stiffer-more like a racing bucket). When all else fails, weld the seat like you first said and buy your wife her own p-car.

I've looked at this problem being almost 6'7" and the only solution I found were some racing/aftermarket buckets and possibly some floor mounted rails or side mounts. Other than that I have heard of some removing some stuffing from their seat...

Good luck! Remember, the wife can always use a cushion or phone book

Works only for the wider seat rail spacing of the pre-74 cars ....
