Laser Detectors Y/N?

I know the Valentine/Escort thing has been kicked around here many times before, but...

We're having a balmy spell here (up to +10c or around 45-50f) with no snow in recent memory. Roads are pretty much clean and dry. So I broke the car out for a nice cruise yesterday. After a nice warm-up I get caught in a convoy on the freeway (you know - four cars blocking up three lanes at sub-speed limit).

With a few miles of frustration behind me I spot an openning, nail it and slip through. Gotta let that new euro pre-muffler and Steve Wong chip have their head a bit, so I run it up to 100 mph+. I'm just coming off this blast when I spot the cop standing in front of me with his hand in the good-old stop position. Always amazes me how those guys will leap into traffic like that.

Lucky, it's only 30 kph over (20 mph) on laser with a $177 fine and a negotiation down to a "registered owner" charge so there's no entry on my driving record. Got me thinking though that it may be Valentine time.

But in reality, would a Valentine have helped me here? I was the lead vehicle with a real nice hide-out for the cop (no way to see him or the gun in advance). How would a detector possibly spot a laser signal in enough time to warn me and for me to throw out the anchor?

With laser all the detector will tell you is that you have been tagged. very little scatter, unlike radar.

Better off with a jammer, which which jam the laser signal for sufficient time (well, about 5 secs) for you to slow down and then allow the gun to register a speed.

There is no defense against laser other than being alert and spotting the cop before he zeros in on you. It is line of sight only so you have a fair chance of beating him to the draw so to speak.
