call me a hack.....long story

just got done replacing my floor pan(1970 911t 2.2) with 18 guage sheet metal. the floor pan was really shot to begin with.maybe you should call me cheap instead, i prefer broke, when it comes to spendable cash for this car.this car when i bought it(1999) had hugh rust issues but i bought it anyway(ive learned my lesson dearly)i,ve since learned about a ppi ,i will never get my money back and thats that, something ive accepted.there is nothing original on this car.it has webers now, heat exchangers cut off, kn air filters, permatune cd, bousch dist.. i will say this though over the last 5 years of on and off working on it(mostly taking stuff off and really cleaning) i ve learned so much i dont know if i would take the money back in exchange for not learning about this car, it has been really fun. sure the floor pan is not a replacement piece, but my floor is solid now, ive por 15 all rusted areas and hopefully i can "slow" the rusting and get a few more years of tinkering and weekend runs out of it. my next one will be bought with a more educated attitude. by the way when i did replace the floor i did it in sections, back half first, then removed the front half and replaced. i know my car may have move or bent, or twisted some but as rotted as the floor was to start with i dont think it would have mattered. ill try and post some pics this weekend if you dont flame me to bad for this shade tree hack job.

Hey you did it yourself. I don't think you will find anyone on here running you down for that.

Fred, it is your car and you should do with it what you please. Just go out and enjoy the hell out of it! Run it until the wheels fall off, David

Way to go Fred..."the journey is the prize"! I wish I had a fraction of the 'know how' that some of you guys have who tackle some of these projects. I too am learning my car as I go along, but boy do I have a loooong way to go. Good for you!

ps: I just noticed your location...I have a Jamestown addy too...

I admire anyone who has the wherewithal to repair an aging treasure. I confess that I found a (potentially) beautiful '66 912 that was, in my amateur opinion, too far gone to bring back. To this day, I wish that I had possessed the skills and determination that you do. Of course, now that I'm reading this board, guys like you give me the courage, the strength to carry on with my simple jobs.

Or perhaps I'm way overdramatizing this whole thing. Good work to ya, I'm amazed that you could do the job.

Dan
