Cool The Big Easy.....

Well, maybe not quite, but I am looking for the easiest way to pull the HVAC unit out of the dash of my '80 SC coupe. The switch for the fresh air blower has finally died and one cable is jammed. I just acquired a unit out of a 78 SC to use as a replacement. Since I subscribe to the "Hard way/Easy way" school of thought (usually the first time you do something, it's the hard way) I would like to pick your brains and learn from YOUR experiences rather than mine. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

not my favorite job. disconnect all three cables from the valve levers in the front trunk area. try not to kill the clips that hold the sheath of the cable. remove the small bolt that holds the innermost part of the dash unit to the firewall. slip the dash unit out of the hole. unplug various wires and bulb sockets. try to remember the route that the three cables took, and what each attached to, and finish pulling the whole works out thru the dash hole. reverse order to reassemble. then it's just a matter of getting the cables attached to the valve levers and adjusting full travel left and right for all the slider knobs.
