anyone by San Clemente/look @87 w/3.6 supercharged
Is anyone familiar w/ an 87 targa with a supercharged 993 motor. I have spoke to the owner several times and I need to make a decision on this car. Here is what he said about it.
Its an 87 targa w a TPC supercharged 95 993 3.6 motor/87 turbo brakes, g-50 trans 17" cup wheels 87' Targa is ultra reliable.. haven't done a thing to it since instalation several months ago.. runs perfect.. the boost is set at a mild 6 lbs and doesn't seem to stress the low mileage (40K) motor at all... just very strong in every gear... 1000 rpm on.. NOW power... not turbo slow but NOW!! 91 octane gets a ping occassionally but not a big deal 92 or a bit of boost would solve that. Only thing I didn't finish was the a/c and everything is there to do it but my time which I don't have but could hire out if it is important.. not very needed here in so. cal except a few days in August. I have over $30K "invested"??,,, to do this project...$15K in motor... $4K brakes... $3Kwheels/tires etc etc so let me know... The car is super clean inside and out.... I have owned and restored dozens and dozens of porsches over 40 years and everything is done right and clean... just sitting in the garage... I need to know if anyone could look at this car for me? |

I go by San Clemente twice a week. Maybe early next week in the AM I could go over with my camera.

If you don't mind...what's he asking? $15k for a properly installed 993 motor is realistic without the supercharger. I believe a TPC setup runs about another $10-$12k. So if he did it all for $15k, he's a miracle worker IMHO. $4k for the brakes sounds right...maybe a tad high (especially for a guy who can install a 3.6 with SC for $15k).
It'll be interesting to read about it once someone's had a look. It's got to be wicked fast.

Is that car red with a small hump on the deck lid to clear the S/C pulley? If it is, I teched it a couple months ago for an AX at irwindale.
The install looked sano but I didn't get a chance to watch the car run, either I missed him or he left early, not sure. |

Sammyg2- Yes that is the car. Looks nice but I need more feedback before I do a PPI and commit to the car. I would love for someone to look at/maybee drive the car.

How does that car pass CA smog? Did TPC get a CARB # for the supercharger kit?

Doesn't the 993 motor have a Knock sensor? If so why does it ping on 91?

Jerry - I'm 2 towns over from San Clemente and would be happy to look at it... but I'm leaving for Phoenix at noon today. If the guy can show it on my way out, I could swing by. PM me with your phone number or call me... 949-495-9205. Otherwise, I'll be back in town Sunday night.

I have seen the car and met the owner (friend of a friend) it's a nice car. Definitley a sleeper, I believe the only reason he wants to sell the car is because he is moving. If I had the money to buy and maintain the car I would jump on it.
