Cool 72GasTank Install Advice?

I am ready to re-install my gas tank. I have cleaned up the old black foam seal around the tank seat. I am ready to lay down the new seal (Bought from Wayne/PP I might add) and place the tank back in the car. Everything looks pretty straightforward.

Does anyone have any advice or secrets as to the process before I get going??

Thanks

Ron

Uh, install new seal, set gas tank on seal, fasten using three hold downs?

lift with your legs not your back. it is really easy. leave the sending unit out, the hole makes a handy handhold.

Ron,
First, a quick rinse with fuel wouldn't hurt. Careful of fire danger.
Get all the fuel filter fittings and drain plug installed, attach all the hoses and clamps, mount the fuel pump and get it electrically connected, set the tank in place (not attached), connect all the hoses and clamps, and test the system before you anchor down the tank. Only then attach the filler and vent. The last operation is attaching the tank.

Best,
Grady

Oops, I forgot something.

Test fit everything first. Do you have new sealing rings for the fittings? New gasket for fuel level sender? New hoses? Good clamps?

Pay attention to the condition of the plastic fuel pipes that go down the tunnel.

I assume you really cleaned the tank and fittings/filter screens. The pick-up screen must be absolutely clean or new.

Does your 911 have the pump in the front or rear? If in the rear , you should seriously consider repositioning it to the front with all the OE hardware and in the origonal front location.

The tank is grounded thru the sender harness. You need the sender in place, connected, and the little ground wire attached before you put power to the system.

You can temporarily plumb the fuel lines in the engine compartment to run thru the filter and back to the tank. This lets you purge the system of contaminants before you let fuel into the injection pump. Wait until you have driven the 911 for a few tanks of gas and then replace the filetr.

What is the condition of the evaporative emissions vent hoses?

Best,
Grady
