Who sells adjustable 930 WURs?
Looks like my WUR bit the dust.
For the past few months the car has been slow to start with a "chugging" up to idle that took a few seconds. I then began to note a slight occillation of 200 rpm at idle when warm followed by a my A/F guage falling below 14:1 when at a sustained speed. An attempt to compensate by adjusting the mixture blew the problem wide open. If the mixture is set so that idle occillation is eliminated the car will not start in a reasonable amount of time when cold. SO - while I wait for the Gunson I purchased from a felow PelicanHead I have been searching the archives for the fella that sells adjustable WURs for 930s. I know that's what the problem is so if I gotta replace it I want to make it an upgrade. Anyone remember this gadget?

RarlyL8. Somewhere in the tech articles of PelicanParts, Bob Tindel has an article on building an adjustable wur. Dan

If you need another good WUR to modify I have a good one you can buy for $200. It has about 70K miles on it.

All the WURs are adjustable. The adjustment is done by knocking the plug on the top. It seems that usually the control pressure is too high, resulting in a lean mixture. Pushing the plug in lowers the CP and richens the mixture. There is also an adjustment @ the bottom, under the brass plug, which varies the relationship between the cold and hot CPs, but that is not too common a problem.
The adjustment the others have mentioned is a very good way to easily knock the plug up or down as reqd. Quite often, however, this is not required, and it is worth it to check your CP w/ a gauge and then just knock the plug a little @ a time until you are within spec. Based on the usual symptoms, I knocked my plug down until I got the desired start/ warmup/ run performance. I did this before I had the fuel gauge, and it worked fine for me. If your WUR is nonfunctional due to some other problem, say a burned out bimetal strip, then the adjustment won't help.

I figure it's the bi-metal strip due to age (28 years). The car runs perfectly once it is warmed up so the basic function is intact.
The Gunson should tell me the rest of the story, if not I'll buy the pressure guages. Thanks for the leads on adjustable units. I see no reason to modify the one I have because of its age. Ollie's sells rebuilt units for ~$150 plus my core. If that falls through I'll shoot 350HP930 an e-mail. I remember reading an article some time ago where someone was selling WURs moddified specifically for high-output 930 enrichment. I just remembered his name!! Lee Rice! That's it. I'll do a search.

If thats the cost of a quality reman I will match it. I looked at the cost of a replacement here on PP and used about 40% of that as a fair price but now that I know what else is available I am willing to take less.
I no longer have a need for the thing anyways. ![]() |

I envy the fact that you no longer need a WUR. EFI is just too darned expensive for me to justify given the real world use of my car. So far CIS has been very reliable and driveable.
I'll call Ollie's Monday and see what their warrany is. In the mean time if you can e-mail me a pic of your used unit and the Bosche part# I'd appreciate it. (RarlyL8@yahoo.com) Can't stand to have my car down, I drive it all the time.

CIS is a beautiful and simple fuel injection solution and I would have reused mine if I hadn't been bitten so badly by the HP bug.
The EFI route is not that expensive in my case though. My EFI project is only going to set me back around $1500 and that includes the distributorless ignition. I will try to get that picture and part number to you tomorrow. |
