3.0 Transplany into a carrera

This might sound like a stupid question to some of you experienced guys but what would it take to install a 3.0l into
an 87 carrera?
Will the 915 tranny work?
Any other problems??
Thanks

Did the tranny mount points change with the G50? The 3.2 will pretty much bolt right into an SC, or so I am told, so it should work the other way around. What year 3.0? If it's an 80-83, do you have the O2 'brain'? You could put carbs on it and forego all of the fuel injection stuff. Like MikeZ says "a stock car sucks".....

You would need to change out the pedals as the 87 had hydraulic clutch. Mounting points for tranny should be the same, but I'm not sure. You would need to change out the ignition system or back wire for a CDI box as well as some of the other electronics. Shifter would have to be back dated, or at least the shift coupler and rod to coupler. Then there is the clutch cable, which is another reason the pedal cluster has to be changed. . . . Probably more, but that is what comes to mind.

BTW Chris is not a smart ass . . . he happens to be one of the most knowlegable members on the board . . . what he was trying to do is give you a little hint that it might not be worth it, not knowing of course that you have the engine/tranny.

Nah, I'm smart ass.

If you can find a G50 transmission somewhere I think it might be better to sell your 915 and get a G50 vs backdating the pedals and shifter. Probably a little more expensive but maybe a wash. The car would be easier to sell as a G50 car should it be necessary some day.

EDIT: Oops, you said 3.0, thought you said 3.2. I don't know what the issues of connecting a G50 to a 3.0 would be.

If you take a flywheel and clutch setup off of an engine that was mated with a G50, it should bolt right up to the 3.0 flywheel.
