955S vs. WS6, and the winner is ....
the Porsche of course! Had an impromptu 'performance comparison' with a WS6 TransAm (isn't that supposed to be the high-performance version??) this AM. Started on a slippery 360 degree 30MPH freeway entrance ramp - of course, I was all over him here thanks to all-wheel drive and stability management

Check this out - it's a Turbo Pepper with the Fabspeed exhaust set-up in some acceleration and passing runs: http://www.fabspeed.com/Cayenne%20Turbo%20Video.wmv Here's the main Cayenne page: http://www.fabspeed.com/cayenne.html I think that's the exhaust set-up I would go with if I end up with a Cayenne. ![]() BR, Kurt |

WS6 has something like 320 HP, it was the top of the line TA. Probably something like 3500- 4000lbs though, but nice kill. Was it an auto or a six speed? A friend of mine had a auto, it would move pretty good, handled like a pig though.

I'm guessing it was an auto. Thanks for the stats, I was wondering what they had in them.

The turbo is too restrained. The S is much nicer sounding in my opinion. But the auto gearbox takes a bit of the pleasure away from the sound
![]() Now that we're talking German V8s: Audi RS6: http://www.thhe.dk/Audi_RS6.mp3 BMW M5 with V8 and a Kellners exhaust (I like it): http://www.thhe.dk/biler/BMW_M5_E39_thhe-dk-1.mp3 Hamann BMW Z8: http://www.thhe.dk/biler/Hamann_BMW_Z8.mp3 They sound pretty nice too ![]() |

Nice job, Curt. i used to be one of those F Body racers. My Z28 had the LT1 and 6 speed and ran in the low 13's with just some bolt-on stuff and DOT stickies. Now that I have experienced a PORSCHE, i will never go back. My SC isn't as fast but is way more fun to drive.
See ya Wayne

$15K? I'd guess the WS6 stickers for closer to $40K ....... but what exactly does sticker cost have to do with performance? Try to get past your insecurities and think objectively: a loaded-down SUV with performance equal to or slightly better than Pontiac's top-of-the-line hot rod / sports car. I know this is an extremely upsetting topic for some, but just pretend the Cayenne is a Toyota or something if that helps soothe your pain .....
![]() P.S. I'm not one to pile on, but I think I even had a bag of groceries in the back seat - lucky I didn't break the eggs! ![]() |

I think they were a little over 30K if memory serves me right, too much obviously since nobody bought them and they were discontinued. I'll admit it, if I could afford it my wife's car would be a Cayenne, right now she has an '03 4Runner Sport, and though it's fun for a SUV, it's no Porsche. And yes, the Cayenne is a Porsche.

I'm sure you beat the driver, but I doubt your Cayenne could really match a late model, LS1 WS6 in acceleration or top speed on a dry road. Those things easily run 104-108 mph in the 1/4 mile. You've got similar HP, but a lot more weight and aero drag.
I've driven both, and I know which one really runs. The normally aspirated V8 Cayenne sounds great, but feels slow. Isn't the 0 to 60 around 7 seconds or more? A WS6 is close to 5 seconds flat. The turbo Cayenne loses the great sounds of the S, and doesn't feel nearly as quick as the road test guys get them to go. I'm sure the testers left foot brake to run it up against the torque converter, which I didn't do and is not what you do day to day. Until the thing comes up on the boost, it's just not very quick. I drove one back to back with my 4 cam Cobra, and my Cobra feels much quicker. A late model WS6 is quicker still. Regards, Jerry Kroeger Regards, Jerry Kroeger

Jerry, I agree in a standing start the WS6 should have no problems due to its weight advantage (I may have to pull out the Gray Wolf for that kind of race .....

Then there's Pontiac's latest stab at performance, the new GTO (gas tires & oil) I think 400hp?
Prolly give the Cayenne a run for its money..... |

Well I did it. I bought a 04 Cayenne for the wife. We drove all the comparable SUV's in the same 50k RANGE and the Cayenne won hands down. Very nice interior, quiet, handles and stops better than any of them. I still Love my 74 911 though.
