Manhattan Pelican get together?

I'm formerly of NYC, now on Lawng Eyelandt -- I'll show up, schedule permitting.

Johns Cramer and Colasante are also in town, and last I knew Cramer would tip a pint at the slightest provocation.

Unfixed -- parking is not too big a PITA, if you pay $300+ per month (per car) to park. Otherwise, yeah -- it's a huge PITA.

Yup. Marc Weintraub kept his immaculate silver S in there too, along with some poor old abandoned silver 73 T that eventually was hauled off.

yeah I saw you a couple times, tried to catch you at a light once on 46th/9th. My 69 911 is safe and sound over in North Bergen. But I plan to bring her into the city later this year.

Ah wait a minute, I remember a fella walking up to me at a light as I was headed outta town, and I believe he metioned a 69. Hrm could that have been you?

FYI if your bring your 69 into the city, the Central Parking at 50th and 9th is a relatively cheap place to park your car ($250/month). It's big and crowded, but if you get to know the guys and treat them well, they'll hook you up with some good spots (safe, single, out-of-the-way spots secluded by concrete posts), and they usually let me park my own car. Downsides: $3 exit fee, and sometimes it takes some time to get out if you leave when the garage is crowded (weekday, between 8 and 6).

I think next Friday is good for me.

A few McSorley's tips for our outing:

1. DO NOT put anything in the beer glasses when you are done drinking. Napkins, bits of uneaten onion, etc.

2. DO NOT order a white wine, or anything other than "Light or Dark!"

3. DO NOT whistle. Under any circumstances. Even whistle something like "Loch Lomond" softly, into your jacket.

There are also a few "Do's."

1. DO laugh out loud and stomp your foot when a female inadvertently opens the door to the men's room, revealing a trio of urinating patrons with a hapless look on their face. This happens about five times per evening.

2. DO tip the bartenders on every round, liberally.

3. DO engage in a beer-quaffing contest with European tourists with waist-length hair. After winning the beer contest, add insult to injury by referring to the defeated imbiber "Fabio."

4. DO read "Up in the Old Hotel" by Joseph Mitchell, in particular, the first story in the book, which was written about McSorley's in 1943.

Rudy's is a little too modern for me, dating from 1934. You can't beat the cheap beer, at last check $2.50 a pint, and the hotdogs cooked using a 40 watt light bulb do a fine job of keeping my white blood cell count high. If you find yourself in that area also check out Mr. Biggs at 43rd and 10th, used to be called "Club 596" when it was the Westies' headquarters. Some pretty grim activities took place in the basement there.

But enough stalling, I am OPEN for next Friday night at 7:00 p.m. who is with me?

And dont forget to bring cash. They have not, in the 150 years they have been open, ever taken a credit card.

I miss the days when we could smoke off a pack of Newports and quaff a dozen or so lights, fire back a sleeve of crackers and that slightly suspicious cheese, with a big onion and the famous hot mustard. Ahhhhhhh.
