Cool, I hosted two other fellas on my server, tomorrow we will have to be more centralized so we can get more people. I think we played for an hour or two, time flies.

Tomorrow I'll host or I'd also love to get on someone else's server.

I had Pari, Par911, and I think Leland, Cool Lee, but above he says he was on Emcon, so I'm not 100%, it seemed like him, and Cool Lee did have an SC fetish going on, so it must have been.

Very fun, we'll have to do it more often.

Leland Pate 02-03-2004 08:06 PM

Oops, sorry Steve... I thought I had connected to 24.6.3.253.
My bad... :)

Ryan, what kind of firewall are you running?

masraum 02-03-2004 08:08 PM

Hey, this looks cool too

derek murray 02-03-2004 08:08 PM

...just back from 24.6.3.253... wow... i've never had so much fun getting "kicked"... spent more time on my roof than tires... this needs to happen more often.

masraum 02-03-2004 08:13 PM

Here's a past thread with more about NFS PU
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58611&highlight=NFS+unl eashed

I invited the 914 guys, they had a thread on this a few days ago.

They'll have to drive 911's though because the 914's in this game are painfully slow.

masraum 02-03-2004 08:24 PM

Cool, how many people were on Emcon's server?

Dr Ryan, man, I'm sorry that you got left out. I'm not sure what is going on, I tried a couple of different times to get on Emcon's server too, but always got "connection lost". I'll look around tonight and see if I can find anything on the net.

All, it looks like this might happen again tomorrow night probably starting around 9eastern/8 central/6 pacific

masraum 02-03-2004 08:26 PM

another thread with more info

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/4674-need-speed-porsche-unleashed-revisited.html

emcon5 02-03-2004 08:40 PM

That was awesome. We had 4 drivers, without a hitch, racing everything from 65 911s to GT1s. 935s in the Alps was a hoot. Thanks for playing.

Unfortunately for Sports Car GT the speedsims website is gone, and with them many of the files with cars and tracks were lost. I downloaded a bunch of cars for SCGT, and played it all the time before the good mods for the F1 series came out. I posted some screenshots a while back, in this thread.

IMHO at this time** the best sports car racing game is the GTR2002 mod for F1-2002.

Electronic Arts F1 series is an good game, as it is readily modified to do things the designers never planned, including some excellent mods for sports car racing. A group of very talented guys got together and on their own made a patch that lets you race the FIA GT series, with 7 new tracks, 37 new cars, using 4 tire models (with different grip, heat, and wear profiles). It was built as a simulation along the lines of Grand Prix Legends, and it meets that goal.

There are some screenshots and details in a old thread here:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/107984-martini-993-gt2-vir-gtr2002-post782223.html

You can find a list of download sites here:
http://home.cablerocket.com/~waldroff/gtr_sites.htm

There are several other mods for F1-2002, like the full 50 car field from the 24 hours of Le Mans (with 4 versions of the Le Mans track for 4 times of day), the LMP675 and LMP900 classes from the ALMS series, Alfa Romeo 147 single car series, plus a few open wheel series.

And yes, you can race the Nurburgring Nordschleif.

There is a list of mods here:

http://home.cablerocket.com/~waldroff/index.htm

** I say "at this time" because the newest (and last) version of EA's F1 series is out, and there are a ton of new mods coming down the pipe.

Check out the list here:

Hmm, I found this at one point concerning lack of peer to peer connectivity

If you have deleted gimme.dll, you can under some circumstances be unable to

For what it's worth, I am running Win2000, and had to delete Gimme.dll to get it to run.

Tom

masraum 02-03-2004 09:23 PM

it'l weird, does anyone else have this problem

garbled text
it's most obvious in the track names. It made chatting a real pain. I had to guess what the fellas were saying. certain places it's worse than others and the smaller the text the worse the problem.

I've got a geforce 4 fx 5200 with the latest nvidia drivers.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1075875798.jpg

Yeah, that gimmee.dll is a weird one. I didn't have to do anything to get nfs to run on my xp pro box, but I know several others have. I am going to try to connect to your server tomorrow if you have it running. Or anyone else if they get it up.

surflvr911sc,

Do you by chance have a router connected to your DSL? If so, the address: 169.254.250.241 may not be the correct address to give out. I have been following this thread and tried pinging that address and never got a reply.

Trying going to http://www.whatismyip.com and see what it says. If you are on a router, the above site will tell you what the actual IP is that you have from your internet provider.

masraum 02-03-2004 09:50 PM

Good call, but 9 times out of 10 the ip on the inside of a router is going to be in the 192.168.1.x network. Definitely worth a check though.

It was kind of depressing tonight to be playing when I was pretty sure the main guy pushing for this was stuck. Hopefully we'll come up with something for tomorrow.

masraum 02-03-2004 09:56 PM

Hmmm, a microsoft patch that fixes (something) in NFS Porsche Unleashed.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q319580

Nevermind, just realized how old this is, April 2002. I think if you have Service Pack 1 then you have this patch.

jrdavid68 02-03-2004 10:09 PM

Yes, 192.. and 172.. are the most common. However, I just did a search and found the following:

http://lists.ethernal.org/cantlug-0205/msg00006.html

I didn't really read it - maybe somone can decipher this.

masraum 02-03-2004 10:12 PM

You know, I have seen that address before when I was having DHCP problems.

Ryan, what sort of modem do you have? Is it plugged into an ethernet port or is it a USB modem or something. Maybe that is part of the problem. We'll get your problem licked by tomorrow night if you are still interested.

Can anyone else who has AOL and DSL tell me what their IP address is? Lets see if it is similar to Ryan's.

masraum 02-03-2004 10:16 PM

Yep, definitely looks like that isn't a valid IP range...

NetRange: 169.254.0.0 - 169.254.255.255

sorry to butt in but is anyone as into GranTurismo (playstation) as i am?
is anyone looking forward to GT4 as much as i am? are any of you pelican boys going to be up for some online bizniss?
whats the general view onthe ps2?

Andy, very fast UK GT3 driver!

sammyg2 02-04-2004 03:17 AM

I'm a NFS/PU junkie too, but my machine locks up every time i play in evolution mode. It works fine in factory driver and quick race, I can't figure it out. I changed gimme.dll, reconfigured it every way possible, compatibility mode, changed page file size, version 3.5. etc.
I'm running XP pro with a decent video card and current DX and plenty-O-ram.
Any suggestions?

magilla 02-04-2004 03:31 AM

The 169.x.x.x subnet is what my cable router uses on the internal lan. I think this is one of the reserved ranges for private use (not allowed on the Internet). Are you sure you are giving the IP address on the external interface of your router? Try telneting to your router and see what address is bound to that interface OR try tracerouting to something on the Internet and the third address (after your 169.x.x.x address on your host, and the 169.x.x.x address on your router's internal interface) will be your external IP.

I dunno, just a thought.

k9handler 02-04-2004 03:54 AM

man I wish I was on broadband again...I have the PG2 on xbox and can't race live, could get NFS but same case...this sucks! Then again I will be away for six months!

surflvr911sc 02-04-2004 06:50 AM

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I'll try again tonight. I have an Ethernet modem (no USB), the XP firewalls are off, and no router.

I'll try this site when I get home and see what is says about my IP address http://www.whatismyip.com.

Man I was bummed last night! I ended up driving angry and got a 1:24:xx lap time on the Monty Carlo Circuit 3 track in the '73 RS, while racing 7 other cars.

You guys are in big trouble if I ever get in there! :p

surflvr911sc 02-04-2004 06:53 AM

And it wouldn't run on my XP home w/o changing gimme.dll.

Par911 02-04-2004 07:09 AM

I was racing yesterday with a 56K connection and had no trouble playing, I even took first place a few times. I was getting the same "connecting" screenshot for like ten minutes when I tried to log on to emcon's game. Then I entered masraum's (Steve) IP address and joined his game with no problems. I didn't even do anything with the gimme.dll file. It's on again tonight!!

I connect at like 40kb sec...would that work?

If so I need NFS...:D

masraum 02-04-2004 08:14 AM

K9, Pari was connecting last night over dialup, I could tell by watching has car and his ping times that he was somewhat handicapped by the dialup, but not too bad. With a good 40K connection you should be able to play.

jhelgesen 02-04-2004 08:35 AM

Shoot, I used to play over a 28k connection. As long as the server was on a cable modem or something we were fine.

Par911 02-04-2004 09:12 AM

Yeah H.D, you'll be fine with 40k. All you need is the game. As much software as Germany creates, I would assume they sell NFSPU somewhere over there.

SGB 02-04-2004 09:38 AM

Thanks for the invite!

masraum left a note on the 914 board looking for more racers. I would love to do it. Gotta reinstall the game and wheel, but I'll be ready- Didn't I read 9 eastern, 8 central, 7 mountain, 6 pacific? I'll be checking this thread about 10 minutes prior for the server addy. Hope I can get in. I may let my 11 year old drive. He is much better than I am with this game- something about practice maybe?

Thank again!

masraum 02-04-2004 09:43 AM

awesome!! Hopefully things go better for us tonight. If leland can come maybe we can teach him how to host since he is also on Cable.

Leland Pate 02-04-2004 10:03 AM

I have no probs hosting, but you'd definately have to give a tutorial.

I'm not very savy with these machines.

derek murray 02-04-2004 10:12 AM

if this PelicanParts - NFS PU thing continues to gain in popularity, which i think it will... i wonder if wayne could place a "sticky" or some other permanent link to a thread on who is hosting or looking for a race.... wayne????

heck... NFS PU could become a nice interface for the PelicanParts chat room :)

Glasgow 911SC 02-04-2004 11:31 AM

i bought the game today. It's dirt cheap now.

Sp it's 9pm Eastern time tonight? That's New York time right, 5 hours behind GMT?

And all I need (hopefully) is the V3.5 patch.....

That gives me till 2am...doh.... to practice.

masraum 02-04-2004 12:53 PM

Sweet, we'll be there.

smestas 02-04-2004 12:56 PM

I just got my software for the game!

What time is all this going down in PST?

"If you aint rubbing pixels, it aint racing"

masraum 02-04-2004 01:25 PM

It'll probably start around 6 pacific since I get home at about that time, but last night it didn't get really cranked up for about an hour after that.

Par911 02-04-2004 02:56 PM

ATTN: All you pelicans that just bought the game, make sure that you go in evolution and win the races to buy at least the 2.7 RS. If you don't have anything in your garage aside from a 356 or a 914, you can count on getting smoked by Leland or Steve who have GT's. Although there was that one race yesterday where Steve beat me in the 2.7 RS and Lee's 993 turbo. I guess it's the driver and not the car :D.

masraum 02-04-2004 03:09 PM

Heheh, like I said, being the host of the server helps, I don't have to fight lag.

It also doesn't hurt that I have played through the game several times (though not in about 6-9 months) and have some pretty tricked out cars, but there are plenty of people around with amazing hotlap times that will blow me out of the water.

Oh, and the race that Pari is talking about I was driving a '67S to their '73 RS and 993tt. ;) I think Pari ran some really good interferrence for me on Leland. I think he ended up upside down or actually was so far ahead that he came back looking for us.

We just used the stock non-modified cars. Online you can play any car, whether it is in your garage or not. You can't swap parts, or monkey with the setup, but that is OK because everyone is equally handicapped. ;)

Tom

masraum 02-04-2004 03:12 PM

sure, I'm game for any car, any track.
