1971 T clutch cable....HELP PLEASE

Its been a year since I took apart my 911 2.2 with 915 trans and now during my very slow rebuild I cant figure out how to attach a new clutch cable. Ive read and read tons of good stuff but cant seem to find this one....maybe cause its a stupid ??

So...How does the inner silver cable connect at the clutch end with the bowden tube to move the shift fork. Right now the cable is going through the threads and the piece that connects with the fork and through a boot and then a hole in the trans. I cant seem to tighten it up or figure out how the silver cable is supposed to move the black one.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or help.....Bruce

Bruce,
OK, how did you fit the 915 to your 2.2?
Share the info.

Best,
Grady

Yea tha 915....Must be a 901 huh? Its the original 4 speed I do know that. This is all new to me but Im enjoying it...for the most part.

I got the cable tight but I still must be missing something....I took the engine and trans out and apart....didnt touch the clutch or the throwout bearing and put back together after some new gaskets. Is it not just as simple as lining up the fork and refitting the eng and trans back together??

Thanks again.

did you rotate the throwout bearing 90° to lock it to the fork? it won't be pulled by the fork if you didn't.

I did not but since you mentioned that (THANKS) I searched rotate 90 and found a thread that said the same thing....sounds like I need to take my cable loose, pull the arm toward the front, and rotate the bearing 90 degrees and listen for a click. Does that sound right??

Thanks Again!!

it may not click, but the arm will settle against the flat sides of the bearing and butt up against the two square tabs that the fork pulls against to release the clutch. sometimes it takes a bit of persuasion to get the bearing to turn, so if the engine is already in the car, you may have to drop it again to do the job.
