Just a friendly warning Mike ..... rumor has it that this guy started out by replacing his clock one weekend ...... the "While I'm In There' syndrome took over ..... and well ..... the rest is history.

Check out Westach Mike..lots of choices of dual or quad (!) gauges..size may be an issue, but I like cegerer's idea..LOL.
|
Just set the time to 9:11 for good measures and leave it broken.
BTW- I tried hooking mine up to my battery charger on 6V setting and it charged overnight...gave it some kind of second wind and it has been working for a year now. |

Set your dead clock to read 9:11. i did

cylinder head temp. gauge

A combo volt and ammeter might have broader appeal than one that uses CHT...but I'd like either.

Ammeter.....what critical function would THAT monitor? What type of electrical component would start pulling a higher load that require a fulltime cockpit gauge?
|
I'll trade my working 911 3" clock for a working VDO 3" Turbo Boost Gauge (vacuum w boost to 1.5bar).
Even up! :) |
MikeZ:
Having both an ammeter and a voltmeter would give you some indication of the health of both the alternator and voltage regulator, common problem areas with our cars especially as they age. ....what?...too farfetched? ---Wil Ferch |
Not far fetched....just that how many amps something is pulling is something that I would use a multimeter for...AFTER I saw the voltmeter getting wierd....but hey, if i had room it would not be a bad thing.....
My ammeter question was based on "hmmmm", what would "I" really need a real time ammeter for....too many gauges would get me a rice complex....%^B If I can't get the CHT/voltmeter....then a volt/ammeter would be my second choice. I'm just tring to get one that will allow me to put a check engine light it w/o cocking up my "other" gauges.... |
If you're of *that* frame of mind....
How 'bout CHT/EGT combo...they're used differently as diagnostic tools... --Wil Ferch |
My vote is for the big red oil press light. I find it quite comforting on extended trips and spirited drives to know the "big idiot" behind the wheel will be promptly notified if oil press drops off. Cheap insurance. IMHO nothing is more critical than preventing a seized engine due to a slight momentary "oversight" during spirited driving, eh?
Just my .02 cents... |
Did someone say add on more gauges???
Ooops, wrong German car! :) But I'll still swap my 911 clock for a boost gauge. http://forums.newbeetle.org/attachme...&postid=372733 |
Tsuter - here is your 1.5bar boost gauge.
I moved the fully functional and exactly correct all of the time sense its birth in 1978 clock down to the console. Where it still works just dandy. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1076216090.jpg |

Clock in my 70S works like a champ. Looses 10 minutes a week. But I think that has to do something about Einstein's theory about time and speed. I must be going too fast and the clock can't keep up!

|
Where do some of you guys get that big oil pressure warning light? Is there any other way to add such a light, but smaller? I'd like to keep my clock, but also have an extra idiot light as well.
