I actually like the looks of the 964, even compared to the 993 because the 993 looks so tall and bulbous, not in the good old 930/935 way.

Is it normal to rebuild the top end if you have 2-8% leakdown numbers?

I think you are asking me this. The engine was fine when between 2 and 8 percent. I ended up smashing some rings and had leak down numbers in the upper 20s on maybe two cylinders if I recall correctly. One night I was doing some G-Tech numbers and felt the car sag and make a funny sound like decompression or something at high RPMS. The car kept running okay, but my Gtech numbers dropped from about 5.5 to around 6.0 or 6.2 0 - 60. I then took it in for a leak down and found out the bad news.

Thanks for all the input. I decided to go somewhere in between. This is about the 8th decision, but this one starts executing on Monday.

I'm keeping my SC. I couldn't let it go with everything that's been done. Not to mention I just really like it. I will need a few mods though. I've decided to install a 3.2 later this month. It's not the bang of the 3.6, but with a chip and my SSIs it should be good for 225 or so... a noticable increase. It will serve as a great base for turbo charging when the funds are there. In the mean time it leaves enough budget for suspension. I'm still working that piece out.


Anyway the 3.0 will be out on tuesday, here we go.

why not rebuild the 3.0? Add the SSIs, hotter cam, new headstuds, maybe carbs, and you'll have a bombproof engine. If you're going to buy a used 3.2, you could be looking at redoing that engine (valve guides, headstuds, etc), so it doesn't seem like a future-proof decision.

I thought about it..and I know it's somewhat of a gamble. The 3.0 rebuild was just too expensive. Any real power would involve an induction change. Carbs or EFI will run $3-$5k. Then the power add-ons. It gets expensive in a hurry. If I get lucky and the donor engine is as described I've got more power and a solid base for turbo charging.
