Why im going back to Swepco from Kendall

I just put in a nice order from our host including o-ring and transmission main shaft seal and a new clutch disk. I also ordered a nice gallon of SWEPCO to go along with it. I was using the Kendall gear oil. The reason for the change has nothing to do with the performance of the Kendall...no complaints what so ever. Well, other than its hard to tell the difference between the motor oil and the gear oil when its dripping off the bottom of the car. For this reason alone, Ill be going back to SWEPCO. If I come upon a dribble on the garage floor, I want to be able visually and olfactorily (sp? and is that even a word?) determine its origin

I've used them both and cant really tell a difference in shifting...

Yep. Much easier to spot the blue on the floor. I just did a main seal and new disk as well. Total bang for the buck!

Have fun.

Point taken John Walker.

Can I order Brad Penn online?

And how much should I pay? Now that Castrol is up to four and change per guart, it may be time to experiment.

Brad Penn can be ordered from Pelican. You can check Amazon as well. Cases show up Prime from time to time.

OUCH!! Brad Penn is expensive!!

Now here goes my old man side talking: "I remember back in the nineties, I could buy a quart of Castrol for ninety-nine cents. Hell, for five bucks I could change the oil in my Vega".

OK - I am done.

Even though they're the same color, Kendall gear oil vs. whatever your std. colored oil is, you should still be able to do the smell test. Gear oil has a distinct farty smell compared to engine oil.

Brad Penn is a bit expensive (or not, depending on where you shop) but its good stuff. Or if you want to be cheaper you can buy the Valvoline VR-1 Racing 20W50 (street legal is fine, don't start on the "is it street legal or non-street legal I need to buy" question) when it goes on sale at Autozone every so often. I get it for less than $4/quart when on sale and free shipping. Plus they typically give you X amount of dollars in gift card money depending on how much you spend.

Mr President did not recommend the Valvoline VR-1 Racing 20W50. I am following his advice and sticking with the Brad Penn - I can assure you - although expensive - much cheaper than a rebuild

Good to know from El Presidente'. And yep, I know how much of a kick in the head a rebuild is. You and me both bro. Although if we were having a pissing contest, I think I won by a lot?

For a street engine I suspect the Valvoline is not a huge risk. Track driven engine, it's silly to take a chance for $50 per oil change. Anybody driving their engine very hard like we do on the track is crazy not to use a proven oil, even if it costs substantially more than one might like to spend.

You Yes, I think you win - and purely from a carnage point - by a lot! Although I may win from the frequency standpoint...

And yes - silly to skimp on the oil end. and yes I had some pitted rockers - so use the quality oils!

I buy Brad Penn at "the oil warehouse"

its cheaper to buy in California and pay shipping than anyone can even MATCH locally???

pisses me off - think I'll order some more!!!
I wont switch back to 201 - the Kendall is better IMO, as is the Brad Penn - my car saw about 20 track days this year and daily duty to work

Brad Penn also has a dealer locator on their website.

I found a place fairly close to me, I drove to the place and couldn't find a store, just a bunch of residential houses. Finally, I saw a guy waving at me. I stopped and he asked if I was looking for a Brad Penn dealer, then he told me that he's the guy. He's an old retired guy that operates a small machine shop out of his garage. He gave me a great deal on a case, and entertained me for a few hours with great racing stories.
