SC Bumpers, metal right?

Before I start stripping paint off the bumpers of my SC, it occurs to me that I should verify that they are metal. They are, right?

THANKS!

They're aluminum. Or at least the front is. I'm not positive about the rear.

Both are aluminum. The mounts are steel. About 100 pounds weight for both front and rear with all mounting pieces, I believe...

Be careful with the stripper and the AL. Very caustic strippers will eat into AL. You need primer suited for the metal as well.

Did you include bumper pads with the rear aluminum bumper's weight?

Yes, everything as mounted on the car including licence plate braket. This is for ROW pads.

Okay, so when I total up what you present, Bill, I come up with 54 pounds. Can the mounting struts realistically account for the extra 46 pounds, that's if the 100 pound "penalty" these bumpers incur is accurate?

Or better yet, in yours' or anyone's knowledge is 100 pounds accurate for the middle-year Porsche bumpers?

Thanks.

I've recently removed bumpers on an 87 car and they are the same as an SC. The numbers are in line with Bill figures. The shocks, foglights and such might add another 10 pounds.

The non hyd/ ROW mounting struts are still on the car ~2-3#S ea.

Note my weights included fogs/spats/bellows/nuts/bolts.

Ed, it's the combination of magnitude and position that makes r/r w/ f/g a significant change.

As you know not all weight is of equal importance in the dynamics of these cars.

Thanks, Eddie. What's left of your interior after all that stripping? Do you even have door panels?
