re: my new (to me) SC
Thanks for all the kind comments. I'll try to answer as many of your questions as I can regarding my '78 SC.
Yes, this is the same car advertised in July. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/show...threadid=123138 The gentleman I bought the car has owned this car twice(!) over the years. He has several other vehicles and he said the SC just doesn't get driven. He was ambivalent, at best, about selling it. The pics were taken at his home and he, judging from his profile, doesn't want the location disclosed. Regarding head studs on low mileage vehicles, I'm not an expert and I don't want to start a flame war but I did a lot of research and these cars, regardless of mileage, can suffer from head stud failure. I believe there was a thread on this BB recently about a fellow with an '87 Carrera with 7k miles who said he just had to have his studs replaced. The point is, Dan Jacobs had the engine apart and, when I spoke to him about buying the car, he said to call him if there were any problems with the engine. He and I have never met so I took that as a rather generous offer from a man who's obviously confident of his work. I have every intention of driving the car and I will not track it; it's too nice for that. It does have H4's but the standard headlights and rims came with the car. It's been lowered to Euro. specs. I do plan on installing the clear 3M shielding on the hood and valance. I haven't checked the wheels closely but the gentleman i bought the car from specifically said that the second owner had the wheels chromed by Woods. He has three other 911's and he knows the cars quite well. As far as whether things like A/C and power windows were options or deleted items, I have a couple of 1978 internal dealer books from Porsche and all those types of items were options with specific order codes for each item. If you folks are interested, I'd be glad to post that information. Regards, Steve Ross |
Steve,
Your links not working, try this one: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=123138&perpage=20&pagen umber=1 Cheers, Tim. |
Thanks for the help, Tim.

Beautiful car., Welcome to the tribe. Enjoy.

Steve, I have to say I really like your car. Very unique and european in its simple nature. The rims do have to go, however. I do remember seeing a '78 w/ the same delete options and cookie cutters - for sale in Pano about a year and half ago. It was a mocha brown Targa in MN.
Have fun! |
I dunno...I think the wheels add a little something extra to the car. I like it! That's a very clean lookin SC. Congrats!

I remember that 911 for sale and thinking to myself if I was in the market I would be jumping on a plane ASAP.
I think that SC is a sound value and an interesting example with it's lack of options. Welcome to the board and to the trigger pullers club. :) |
Great lookin ride. The polished wheels look right!

Mark, You have a great looking car, like the ducktail on the SC. I will remove the script from the car. I am flying up to see and hope buy this car on Thursday, have a PPI scheduled for Friday. |
You'll know if your wheels were chromed when they start to peel in a few years. Great find and congratulations beautiful car!
