New one on me: Installing case savers without splitting the case?
Tonight, I heard a really interesting concept: fixing a 2.7 pulled head studs by removing heads & cylinders, covering the spigots and tapping the stud holes for case savers.
Sounds like a hare-brained scheme to me, but I've been assured that at least one mechanic (who will remain un-named [no, not MM]) has done it several times. Personally, I tend not to like little bits of metal floating around inside my engines, but I guess wherever there's a corner, there's a corner cutter... Anyone ever heard of this methodology? |
If a jig can be made so that a hand drill can be used...why wouldn't it work?

One of the more respected local shops in Denver reccomends this with timecerts. I didn't like the idea though. I fugured If your going to do the rebuild do it all the way...
