Upgrading to Carrera Tensioner Question

I am going to upgrade my 1983 SC to the Carrera Tensioner. Are there any other upgrades or replacements needed when I perform this. Idler arms, idler sprockets, chain ramps, ect.

Wayne sells a "Chain Tesioner Upgrade Kit" Make sure you have everything listed there. I hope that helps!

Check the cam timing while you're in there, before you button everything back up.

I am no expert but I when I did my upgrade I updated the idler arms (I had the original '73s with spacers) and replaced the chain ramps (I had the old rubber ones).

I just finished the tensioner upgrade on my 1980 a week ago. i followed wayne's book and the archived info on the board. it all went very smoothly.

also recommend replacing the chain ramps, since they are 20 years old and probably very brittle. i found one ramp in pieces and another one was at the bottom of the case. they cost very little to replace and if they come apart they can cause alot of damage. i think you already have the updated sprockets and arms, but check with someone else to be sure.

good luck

Ramps for sure. Your '83 will already have the upgraded idlers as OE.
(Cam timing would be a beetch to adjust with the motor in the car.)

Not sure on the SC’s, but cam timing is pretty easy on the long hoods. The muffler and rear engine sheet metal has to be removed, and then you have access to everything. Done it many times.

I forgot to mention to verify TDC and adjust valves first.

Good luck!
