My car's dirty little secret

This should be good for about 10 HP.

I've been disassembling my car in preparation for new paint and have found approximately 10 pounds of dirt up near the headlight buckets and bumper mounts, back near my tail light housings, and various other nooks and crannies. Ugh! Feels good to get that all cleaned out. I've got some POR-15 painting to do here and there, but the rust is amazingly light for a 26 year old car.

I did the same cleaning process a couple of weeks ago -- amazing, isn't it? While you're at it, try pulling out the tail-light blocks. Those babies hold an unbelievable amount of cruddies! My car has to be 20lbs lighter right now, and I didn't even have to buy the RS lightweight carpet kit!

Oil tank is another area that collects a lot of crud...you may even run a little cooler with it gone.

Right!

And those dirt-filled areas get wet and stay wet for a long time, promoting rust. A normal wash job cannot flush all that crap out.

When I first got my car, I spent a whole weekend probing all the dirt loose. It filled a large Shop-Vac!
