Window Rattle, Targa
Hi guys,
I was wondering if there was a way to adjust the side window on a targa to eliminate a rattle when the window is fully raised. It will shake slightly over bumps in the road and it can be manually rattled from the corner. When the window is lowered even a bit, there is no rattle, and the window stays firmly in place. I have removed the door panels and I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks. |

I kept having problems with my passenger window being loose in the lower support track. When I took everything apart for the restoration I found the window and lower support rail were not tightly fitted together. The lower support rail had rusted away at the bottom from moisture accumulation. The lower support rail is long and straight and is like bent into a tight U shape. The bottom of the U shape is where the rust occured. This left no strength in the sides of the U to hold the window firm. This might not be your problem but I thought I'd mention it. You may also have to replace the felt liners in the guides on the window frame.

Be sure that the donut on the rod inside the door is present.
Try moving the side seals in or out to put or prevent pressure on the top of the glass. Note the small "C" curl at the side seal: that lip ought to sit over the top of the glass, holding it in place just as you close the door. It does appear your window is being artificially pushed outwards at the top by the side seal. You'd know because, with the window all the way up, you'd look at the mating surface at the back, at the Targa bar seal that sits vertically. If there is space at the topmost section then the window is being held too far away. Also, with the window all the way up some operating rods are allowed to become untensioned as other rods take up the slack and become tensioned. Take a look and be sure all little rattle-prevention donuts are in place and holding things snug. John
